Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Which road at back of airport? Going to be out that way later!

It's on the swords side. Take a left after the coachmans pub if heading up from airport and it's about 5-10mins on the right hand side.

Wow, my experience is always the complete opposite

+1! I've had berries from Lidl and Keelings - both the same variety from the same place eg Spanish raspberries and no difference except the price!

Thanks, came away with 5 kg of strawberries, yum.

Keelings Farm shop in a trailer at the back of the airport FTW. All fresh!

    Apple juice 750ml <3
    Big punnet of strawberries €5
    Premium punnet of strawberries €8

I go for the €5 box every time. They're the odd shaped ones that don't make the cut but taste the same as the premium box.

Never knew they had a shop, do you have to drive into their farm or where is it located?

Can't understand anyone buying blackberries, countryside if full of them and they're left to rot...

Blackberries in the countryside have a short lifespan .............about 2 weeks in September .

It's not really a shop. They have a lorry on the side of the road that you can walk into. I think it's called the Naul Road, where Keelings farms are alongside the airport.

Just out of interest what sort of yields do blueberry bushes tend to give and do they increase much as the bush gets older?

    Even cheaper still : http://www.mrmiddleton.com/save-over-50-on-fruit-bushes/

€1.70 per bush is roughly the same price as a small packet of supermarket berries, look after them and you can enjoy free fruit every summer, plus you get full control over what goes into / onto your food (pesticides, fertiliser etc).

I'm after ordering this offer, will see what turns up but asked that gooseberries take prime spot if possible, already have 2 blackcurrant bushes growing well and a mix of apple and plumb trees so it will be nice to have more variety for the birds to pick at!

They freeze and thaw really well, trick is put them on some foil on a baking tray into the freezer, then when frozen bag them up, you can take out as little or as much then.

Picked up a small plastic tub of pomegranates earlier in Tesco, think it was 1.69, not bad. One of the most under-rated fruits out there, both taste and nutrients wise, a lot of study's say its the most powerful anti-oxidant of any fruit.

Not a bargain but my mother brought me a large punnet of Wexford strawberries yest. They're the first Irish strawberries I've had this year and they cost a whopping €9 but they were incredible. No waste. I guess you get what you pay for

I never buy blackberries. Come August/September they are free in every hedgerow. I'm happy to wait until they are in season here as I can't get a better price than 'free'. :)

Polish Strawberries are amazing in the season (and cheap;)). They are grown outside, not in green houses.

    Highly recommended:D

Season is short for those, prices wil go up soon.

€5 for 2kg is very, very cheap given the transit time, cost and quality.

    Ya get worms off them.

    Pesticides = no worms.

    No pesticides = worms.

I actually have no problem with naturally grown fruit that is eaten by other forms of life.

What worries me is the amount of fruit and vegetables that no worm would touch;)

I look forward to the blueberry season on the local mountain - another month or so should be there

Can confirm the Polish shop in Coolmine /Blancharstown ('Polo Store') sells 2kg Strawberries for 4.95. They're not bad, not the sweetest though, IMO. Will be freezing some for jam-making. Yum!

Cherries also, but no idea about quality (or if it's a good deal)

It doesn't state on either where they're from, only that they're packaged in Kildare for the various Dunnes Stores.

They are both absolutely delicious though, use them most days as a topping for my oats.

FSAI are still recommending that imported frozen berries need to be boiled before use to avoid hepatitis

Yeah I assume these are imported since they don't say. I emailed Dunnes anyway to see if they know, probably won't hear back about it though.
