Picard had a great moment dressing down Ensign Sito in that ep
I always really liked Lower Decks and thought it was one of the best episodes of the final season. Conceptually it was probably a case of "oh we've never done an episode from the POV of the redshirts", but I still think it was really well written. It was also another one of those episodes that made you appreciate what a great character Picard was. He acts like an asshole toward Sito, but it turns out he was the one who requested she be stationed on the Enterprise because he wanted to make sure she got a second chance.

Agree with ye, I loved the reveal that after nearly making her cry with that very harsh bawling out, it turned out Picard was the reason she made it on board Enterprise in the first place.

There was also something very genuine and unforced about the way Worf was almost protective of her but also encouraged her to become more confident and assertive - a real mentor.

There were plans to bring Sito back in a DS9 episode where it would be discovered that she didn't die but was taken prisoner by the Cardassians. The reflex reaction is to think they should have brought her back as she was such a brilliant character but I'm glad they didn't as much of the power and resonance that episode holds is because of her ultimate fate. It sticks in the mind long after the episode has finished which is one thing all the truly exceptional episodes of Star Trek do.

DS9's "The Visitor" was a brilliant episode:

Poor old Jake :( (played by the great Tony Todd who amongst others was also Kurn, Worf's brother)

This always gets me too (TNG The Inner Light):

That and DS9's "In the Pale Moonlight" (linked to earlier) were 3 of the best episodes of the entire franchise in my opinion

I'm sure their are many but the ones I really enjoyed were the ones with Nog and Jake.

The 'self-sealing stem bolt' one and another one where Nog and Jake are trying to get a baseball card for Sisco and start trading all around the station to get it.

Just watched the Season 2 DS9 finale "The Jem Hadar", & the Season 3 two part continuation of it "The Search". Ah yes, DS9 really begins to hit its stride from here on out.

From small mumblings of "The Dominion" in earyl season 2, with the Ferengi trying to open up trade negotiations with them, & a mention of 'a Domion' in one or two eps that are meant to give a sense of foreboding...to the destruction of the USS Odyssey & a real change in direction for the series.

It gets real good from here on in. Also for this fan, "The Search" made new hellos to an old friend, namely, this beauty

    Defiant_firing_pulse_phasers.jpg

That ship is so bad-ass its just ridiculous

I remember seeing the Defiant firing it's phasers for the first time. Was brilliant. So different then any ship we'd seen from Starfleet before, and really worked for the series.

    Tough little ship :)

Did the Defiant originally use photon torpedoes or did it always have quantum torpedoes?

Also! Although originally designed to fight the Borg threat was the Defiant originally kitted out with improved shielding which could withstand the Dominion's weaponry or did that come afterwards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭downwithpeace

I think it was designed with both, quantum as main with secondary photon.

I miss those moments when you'd see a new ship. Very much like the introduction of the Defiant or the Sovereign class or the USS Prometheus.

Imagine what would have happened if Enterprise took place post Nemesis. It would have been great.

The best introduction was without doubt the refit 1701 in drydock. Goosebump city.

Generally its one of the best things with space ships.

Nothing beats a long sweeping view of a new ship.

I dunno, that scene was great (mainly because of garak) and all but it kinda illustrates part of what annoys me about trek

    it's so... self congratulatory

"Oh yeah isn't the federation amazing. we're so much better than everyone else, look at us..we don't even use money and do stuff just to better ourselves. stupid other races, they say they're happy but they're obviously just totes jelly"

also root beer does not grow on you.. it's ****ing disgusting.

Only to a point. What I always took from it is that Humans, in the right conditions, are a fantastic race who're open minded with a thirst for knowledge/exploration that will take them to new places and levels of existence.
But the flipside of the above is that Humans in the wrong conditions are violent, close minded, greedy etc. as per the below (posted it earlier in this thread but it's worth reviewing in light of your comment.

    From the "Scotty" episode "Relics".

Scotty's feeling sorry for himself and has gone off to the holodeck to recreate the old Enterprise bridge, with a bottle of green liquor he got in Ten forward.

Picard shows up and Scotty offers him a drink.

Scotty: Would you have a drink with me captain? I don't know what it is but I'd be real careful...

Picard downs glass in one go

Picard: Aldeveran whiskey. Who do you think gave it to Guinan?

Have been catching up on all of ST:TNG as CBS Action have been showing 3 episodes a day ( Sky Plus is very handy! ).

We're just at the end of Season 6 now, and I loved this scene. Data's face at the end is perfect...

Season 6, the golden era of TNG :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,336 ✭✭✭jasonb

    Yes indeed!

I can't find a clip, but the previous episode to that one ( 'Second Chances' ) had a great Worf / Data scene as well...

Data - "If you met a double of yourself, would you have difficulty interacting with him?"
    Worf - "I think so."
    Data - "Why?"
Worf - "I am not easy to get along with."
Data nods and confirms this, Work gives him a look

Yep, but to be fair to the writers, if you look at the time on the video when he puts the kettle on, and then again when it boils, it is actually around 51 seconds! :)

Saw this again today. Made me laugh

Will Wheaton had just cut ahead of him in line to see Indiana Jones and the new 12 seconds edition :p That first contact scene was so good it's even great when people parody it.

He remembers it fondly too! :)

Love the Sheldon/Wheton rivalry in TBBT. All stems from the 1995 Dixie Trek Convention.

    Loved the scene at the end of Gambit: Part 2, when Picard quotes;

He's supposed to be dead, and so he's off tho get some sleep. And he jokingly says to Data, that Riker is facing treason charges, so take him to the brig.

and the scene closes out with data taking Riker by the arm and escorting him to the brig, with Riker pleading that Picard was just kidding. :D

    Wikipedia wrote:
EnemiesSheldon has rivalries with two of his co-workers: Barry Kripke and Leslie Winkle,[63] however, the person Sheldon considers to be his "mortal enemy" is Wil Wheaton which stems from Wheaton's canceling an appearance at a science fiction convention in Jackson, Mississippi that Sheldon had gone to some lengths to attend years previously. In Season 3, the two encounter each other at a customizable card game tournament, and Sheldon's antipathy towards Wheaton is heightened when Wheaton uses gamesmanship to defeat him in the tournament. Sheldon's animosity towards Wheaton is further reinforced during a bowling face-off between Sheldon's team and Stuart's team, on which Wheaton is substituting for another player. However, Wheaton and Sheldon make up when Wheaton gives Sheldon his last mint copy of his action figure, causing them to be friends. After Wheaton gives Sheldon a mint condition, unopened and signed Wesley Crusher figure, Brent Spiner grabs it and opens it, causing Sheldon to add Spiner to his "mortal enemies list", maintaining the number of names at 62.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

Sheldon travelled all the way there to get him to sign his "Wil Wheaton" doll and then he didn't show up....so Wheaton topped sheldon's mortal enemy list.

Later, Wheaton acutally did sign a doll for him but then Brent Spiner came and took the doll out of its packaging. So Data tops the list now :p

Seen a great episode today. Picard was talking about making model ships in a bottle and he was asking anyone if they did the same.

Worf says- I do not play with toys, in that classic Worf way that he does.

Then Chief O'Brien chimes in and said I did. And Riker gives him a look as if he is sucking up to the Captain. When they leave O'Brien says to Riker I did, I really did, ships in bottles, great fun.

Classic Trek dialogue and a great episode to boot.

I remember seeing that and was waiting for the next season where the Federation would give the Dominion a good kicking.
    Nope
Loss after loss was piled on the Fed/Klingon Alliance

It was definitely one of the best moments of the season. How many times had we heard about a fleet of ships, only to see 10-15 ships fly in. This was a proper 100+ fleet, like we'd always imagined. Loved it :D

This as well was a testament to how dark the show was at times. Most other show's would have the good guys winning, or at least holding their own. But they really were getting kicked about the quadrant for a while.

I gotta go watch some DS9 now :P

For me, the episode where the Federation head off to battle the Dominion and Worf has gone to get the Klingons and then the Fed need to basically go and fight without the Klingons.

Things aren't going well... the camera pans out and then numerous green plasma blasts come down on the Z-axis and there's a fleet of Klingon ships coming out of the sun kicking ass and then genius Worf comedic value "Sorry we are late"

Also..when the Cardis change sides in the last ep, it's just fcuking awesome, all of a sudden you can see the fact a proud people who have realised they've been oppressed under the Dominion and that the Founders who they thought would propel them to masters of the Alpha quadrant are in the process of committing genocide and bang they snap and start hitting the dominion ships!
