The 320 is underpowerd and really, really thirsty. + maintenance at 100K + will bust you balls. Everything will start to go one buy one, espically the suspension gets really loose. been thru it all with a 318 coupe. The horrors. Loads of cheap ones round tho and lovely to drive.

The 323i gets me about 350 miles from 60 euro which isnt too bad. Thats with a 60/40 mix of city / motorway driving. On the open road they are very good on fuel, sitting at around 45 - 50mpg at 75mph on the motorway. Driving around town is where it can hit. A friend of mine has an OPC which sees about 250 miles for the same money. Ouch.

45-50MPG? Are you being towed? I've a 325Ci and the best I can get at 75 mph is about 36MPG. Seems consistent with other similar sized engines. If I drive at 50 mph I can get it upto about 38 MPG. Around the city I get about 24 mpg.

Sorry for the disbelief, but I'd expect those figures from a 320 diesel

Thats on a flat motorway with no major headwind. Factors may include the 323i lower on power (170 vs 192bhp) to improve mpg's. Lower revs at 75mph perhaps - around 3000rpm at 75mph. The car is also probably lighter (1360kgs on NCT) although weight plays a lesser part at speed.

Don't know, my car weights 1,494kgs (according to NCT) is supposed to be more efficient with fuel, and at 75 mph its doing 2,200 rpm. Still don't get that MPG. Ah well. I didn't buy it for fuel economy! :D

My first BMW was a 320 coupe - I absolutely loved it, the noise was fantastic and the performance was great for a 2 liter.

Maintenance is not that bad, no different to any other car with the same mileage and if you are any way handy you could do most yourself.

The car is still on the road with nearly 220k miles on it now.

The diff is not an LSD but you can fit one if you want.

I don't know what the values are like though.

    Richie.
