Pat Kenny.....thankfully won't be in the chair tomorrow as the very educational Myles Dungan will as good old Pat is jetting off to Poland to see Spain wallop Ireland.....

Paid reputably 730 thousand Euro per year for 10 hours work on the radio and about 2 hours television work per week.....

An absolute parasite of a man who's attitude on the 50th anniversary Late Late Show was pathetic, especially with his words of wisdom to the attention seeking Brian D'Arcy.

    Very vitriolic indeed.

Kenny is, in my opinion the best broadcaster on Irish radio.
Did you not hear him having Joe Higgins for breakfast only last week ?

As for his 'words of wisdom to the attention seeking Brian D'Arcy' on the Late Late Show, you're completely missing the point.

Kenny's mini tirade that night was not simply a specific show of solidarity for D'arcy but an expression of justifiable venom at the idea that the Vatican can bully Irish journalists into forced silence by threats.

Never mind the Twink bullshít or Liam Neeson being jarred.
Kenny's comments were the defining moment of that Late Late Show, and they copperfastened his place as the most adept current affairs broadcaster in RTÉ.

Ask Blair Horan who does he think is in more denial, the Irish fans singing "You cant beat the Irish" or the unions thinking that they are gonna be able to hang on to the Croke Park Agreement..
THE leader of the union responsible for the strike at the Passport Office in 2010 has retired. Blair Horan stepped down from his €120,000-a-year role as general secretary of the Civil Public and Services Union having reached the union's mandatory retirement age of 60.

The unions have certainly served Blair well anyway..

Fair f*cks to whoever said get rid of that cringeworthy chant "you'll never beat the Irish".

Almost worth the hammering they got last night if I never hear that moronic ****e ever again. If the Brits sang it we'd be laughing our dicks off at them.

Almost as bad as 'Irelands Call'.

    Wafflers waffling about football.

The only item of interest was Pat's visit to the shipyard.

Shame it was let down by lousy audio.

And Pat is off for a few weeks on his Holidays. Myles is back in. So expect lots of history slots that he can re-use later for his "live" The History "text us at 51551 for 10c" Show.

Yea. That's half a "live" history show in September/October sorted complete with "texts from listeners".

And here we go again with another History item...

Oh and Myles, the Casement story was done way better by Talking History on Newstalk a few years ago....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,536 ✭✭✭touts

Rodger Casement today. And it's a pre-recorded slot so Myles is in his element.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

I switched off, I'm not sure how many times the Roger Casement story can be told.

If Pat were on with that Casement item, I think nobody would make any sort of deal about it.

Because Pat would handle it well, without Myles' little knowing remarks, and not recycle the same item in another programme.

Exactly, you could called it being efficient but its really being very lazy.

That's a load of tosh. Myles's "little knowing remarks" are relevant to the subject matter of the discussion. Do you want only ignorant broadcasters?

It looks to me as if anytime Myles Dungan fills in for Pat, some people queue up here to have a pop at him.

I'm not "having a pop" at him, I was just illustrating how I don't like his broadcasting style. That's still allowed around here, isn't it?

Also, do you think it is acceptable to take items recorded in the Pat Kenny show, and then play them on another programme, telling people they can text in comments for 10c a pop without telling them the item is pre-recorded?

I really enjoy Myles when he sits in for Pat Kenny.
And I like his history focus and i really enjoyed his Roger Casement part.
    So there.

Rich Boy is back out of hiding I see.. I hope Myles asks him about Wallace...

"Only people the Government have been protecting are the super rich"..

I think they are doing a good job of protecting Richard's pals on the dole, public servants, and all the south side rich kids going to Trinity to study ancient greek and cartography.

    Good contribution from Michael O'Regan.

Triffids are quite good at hearing :)

Myles: "Tell me about the bit in the book where carrots feel pain"

Interviewee : "Plants can't feel pain, that's not in the book"

    Great research there...

Listening to this one on about pregnancy I'm left bemused that the human race made it to 2012 at all
Flogging another book of course :)

I'd rather listen to her accent than John Drennan's supercillious bilge!
I was only half-listening, but wasn't her book written 21 years ago, if so then she's hardly flogging it now (or is there an updated version?)

And the item before with Sheila Killian was just ridiculous.. I'm sure that if she ran a business it would be like the Caramel bar ad with the bluebird flying around and landing on her shoulder... But she certainly wouldnt make any profit..

It's very easy for her to tell others how to run a business when her own wages are from the public bankrupt purse.
If she is so concerned, then she open her own and see what its like in the real world.

Same goes for the union leaders, then they can give their employees massive wages and pensions.

Myles doing a big boring segment on Pensions. Employees/Presenters must be nervous about their jobs over in Montrose :D

Kent Brockman is interviewing men who live in Hostels.

"looking back on your life, is there anything you regret?"

    condescending rubbish.

Heard the podcast on the hostels

I suppose I was expecting interviews with people slurring on alcohol
    Maybe that's my own prejudice

That ex-journalist sounded incredibly bright and articulate
Just a few events close together put him on the streets, sad.
If it could happen to him it could happen to anyone

I'm liking Myles Dungan and the job he's doing lately

I just got on to make similar remarks so glad im not alone in thinking this. Myles has clearly significantly raised his game recently. He used be as dour as ditchwater and an auto change station. He must have undergone a fair level of retraining so fair play. Pat is still the GOAT of broadcasters.
