Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows exactly where the speed camera is on the N4 on the way into Dublin.

I had totally forgotten that it was there for the last few weeks. Hope that I wasnt caught

Not long after the motorway ends, just after the Leixlip exit. Across from the Spa hotel

There are two sets of them, one on either side. They're basically half-gantries with two cameras on them, a lot different to the older looking speed cameras. They're just before the Spa Hotel going to the city.

They aren't speed cameras. They are used to see how the flow of traffic is going.

I see. In that case the speed camera in use is the one just after the bridge beside the Spa Hotel, before the footbridge. It's quite obscured by the bushes on the side of the road so it's easy to miss. Don't think it's too bad though, there used to be a ridiculously low speed limit on that road so everyone was getting caught but it's a bit higher now.

These gantries scan number plates of passing cars. Here's an interesting question. Are these data readers linked to a vehicle registration database? Is my privact being compromised? Would the operators be obliged to post a privacy notice on the side of the road to advise my rights??

They are speed cameras they scan nothing, they are set to photograph vehicles exceeding the speed limit that applies on that stretch of road. they are usually set at 10kmh above the applicable speed limit.

    mods, delete this thread surly?

OP, STOP FUKCING SPEEDING!!! then you wont need to worry about getting caught.

In fairness, this one is a racket. Its placed just at the end of the motorway where the speed limit suddenly drops from 120 to 80. It serves no real purpose apart from revenue gathering.

Nah, its OK, I'll just warn him they often have a GATSO van somewhere on the Lucan bypass aswell.

That van is usually parked on the bridge at the dead mans in, where you go under to go to ther liffey valley centre.
