Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Setanta Ireland is the free channel right? maybe they are trying to hook the English market as this is the first time they have had the exclusive internationals and get the irish who already are bigger subscribers to Setanta as it started seemingly targeting the Irish market to pay (have already paid) for Setanta 1 and the Ireland match.

    Good stuff

    Bastards.

Any decent streaming links? Very hit and miss affair- I got the Hatton fight and Brazil matches in blocky but medium quality, couldnt hook up the Serb match at all.

Setanta 1 has the Ireland match and Setanta Ireland has the England game. Maybe they only have the rights for the England game outside of the UK, hence Setanta Ireland

At least we get highlights but whilst Ireland may be in poor form atm I think Setanta should have had the Ireland match live instead on their free service. I mean showing England game instead is just petty prickery IMHO.

Why would they pay for the rights and show it for free?

I'm sure they'll repeat it it around 10pm or something anyway.

If it was my channel I'd show a decent game too.

Anyway, I'm sure its as above, The Ireland game cost them a few quid so it goes on the pay station.

Well, most of us in this country prefer English football to Irish football so this is a good thing isn't it?

The games will be shown as follows.

    In Ireland:
    Setanta Ireland: England game
    Setanta Sports 1: Ireland game
Setanta Sports 2: Ireland game (fantastic scheduling there)

The only reason the game is not on Setanta Ireland is so they can get cable customers to subscribe to their package.

    In the UK
Setanta Ireland: England game (probably will be blocked)
    Setanta Sports 1: England game
    Setanta Sports 2: Ireland game

Ireland and the UK have different versions of Setanta Sports 1

Well it makes sense to show the Irish game on the subscription, and the English game on free, and vice versa for the English audience.

Well the English don't have a free version of Setanta. ;) Yeh it's a only common sense for Setanta to try and get more Irish subscribing.

Well, given the fact that Setanta are showing this one, I'd say the answer to your question is :

    Obviously not.

So they take it off sky who charge €30.00 a month, and they charge €18.00 a month.

    That's a good thing IMO.

What, paying 48 euro a month instead of 30??

You don't HAVE to pay anything.

If you want to watch football, you'll have to pay.

    End of.

business wise this makes more sense. is ANYONE really going to subscribe to setanta to see a friendly against norway? surely putting it onto setanta ireland you'd drive up the viewing figures among cable subscribers and get some decent advertising income.

If you're paying for sports channels just for football, then lousy.
But Setanta have a hell of a lot more than that, as do Sky.

I can see Sky having to try and compete sooner rather than later, as so much football, boxing, racing, and now UFC is on Setanta.

    Competition is good Monkey.
Sky have had a monopoly for so long.

Yeah true, but at the same time, Setanta kind of remind me of TV3? You know the way they get Ireland games sometimes and they advertise them as if they're doing the consumer a favour? "Look what we have for you, a live Ireland game!!!" And you're thinking, f"ck off and leave it on RTE you pr!cks. Setanta are kind of similar in that i was happy paying for just one package and now i have to pay for two!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

Setanta have Pat Dolan and Curtis Fleming, though.

Is that for or against?? Please say against. Please!!!

Whenever i hear Curtis Fleming commentate, it kind of sounds like they've just plucked some bloke, any bloke of the streets of Drumcondra or somewhere and just said, "look, do this match will yeh? We'll give you a tenner and a packet of Tayto at half time!"

True, but at lest there's no more "Premiership Plus"!

Please pay €9.99 to watch a football game!!!!!

    FFS Like.

Dunno - the prem plus season ticket worked out a lot better than 9 months sub for Setanta - and the footie is all I would watch on it.

Except for the fact that in this situation, the more competition you have the more the consumer who wants all sports has to pay!

    True, I suppose.
    For me its grand though.
I use Setanta for lots of different sports, and they also have LFC TV which can be interesting.:)

It's all down to what you want.

I get loads of Magners League and Inernational rugby.
    Prem/FA Cup/CL/European/Scotish/International football.
    Formula 1.
    Boxing.
    MMA
    And LFC and Celtic TV

    etc

So for me €18.00 per month is a steal compared to Sky

Seeing as with Sky I only get

    Prem/CL/Spanish/International football
    Heiniken Cup/International Rugby.
    Boxing.

So that for €30.00 isn't anywhere near as much value for me.

Is the LFC Channel any better during the season. I got it in during the summer but to be honest i found it fairly boring. Except for the scouse chick, jesus she's great. A woman who not only likes football, but supports Liverpool!!!

    It is a bit better.
It's never gonna be great like, but they do have delayed replays of all the games, so if you miss one, and can avoid the results, it's better than MOTD.

Coming up to the twentieth annivarsary of Hillsborough, I'd imagine there'll be a lot of good programming.

    P.S: Yer one is great.

I love how alot of the players seem almost nervous around her when she asks footie questions!

    :D

I think Sky have the rights to the home ganes and Setanta the rights to away games

Sky have the rights to all home games (and RTÉ also have the competitive home games) and each away game is sold by the association who are hosting the game. I think Setanta managed to get hold of the rights for each of the away 2010 qualifiers.
