    Hi
Parents car due for NCT in March and they've a broken front light cover (the light is working) that they can't seem to get a new cover for wherever we've looked! So they're wondering will they get failed for the broken cover or does that matter in the NCT?
    Thanks!

That would be a fail I'm afraid, what kind of car is it? Plenty of breakers in the UK and lots of parts on Ebay too, definately worth a look.

If the light pattern is effected (sp) or there are any sharp edges it will be an instant fail. Have a look at the nct site.

If it'll affect angles in the light test (sorry, can't remember the correct name for it), the lens on headlamps are more than just a cover.

If your parents can't just get a lens that doesn't sound surprising, a lot manufacturers will just supply the whole light and the lens might not be able to be removed without breaking it. Try giving a look at local scrap yards for one maybe.

    thanks guys
it's a Citroen Saxo and apparently any breakers or dealers we've been to about it say it's more or less 'out of date' and parts aren't easy to come by. We're a bit sick looking at this stage! :o The light is operational and it isn't affected, it's just the cover that has a crack in it.
My parents were going to try and get rid of the car and buy another one before the NCT if it was going to fail.

Should be a huge amount of used parts available, they were a popular car, can't understand how a breaker can say something like that.

A quick search of eaby threw this up, I'm sure you could refine the search a little.

Great car BTW, it would be a shame to get rid of it for something so small.

Would having any light cover being cracked cause a fail? Like the lights under the main headlights? sorry, don't know what the correct name is :o

Do a search here:- www.partfinder.ie. There are over 20 Citroen Saxos listed in various breakers around the country.

Other front lamps, such as fog lamps and spot lamps can fail too. (Sec 32 of the NCT manual)
    2. A broken glass on an auxiliary lamp or fog lamp is not a reason for failure unless the crack or break is large enough to insert a sheet of paper as used in the test
Red rear lamps would fail if any white light shows through the crack.

A UK dealer would have that too.. I bought rear lights for a 1988 Citroen van from a delaer just last year.
