Hi there, just looking for a bit of advice if anyone can help. I have a Mazda 323 2 litre diesel (00 model) and the brake caliper (hope I have that right) on the front passenger side needs to be replaced. The brake pads on this side kept wearing out on the car every few months so I was told this was the problem.

My local mechanic has said to buy the part new could be 400 - 500 euros. He has tried a few local scrap yards to see if he can get one off a scrapped car. No joy - there doesnt seem too many of them around.

I have tried google to see if I can locate one in another scrapyard somewhere in the country but it seems to be all english websites. Can anyone recommend a particular website or advise please.

    Thanks!

Ebay UK. There's specialists for almost all brands but these cars could end up in any run of the mill scrapyard. I recommend writing out a standard blurb and give a mailshot to all the breakers who list there.

Ignore the 'fill out the form and wait for replies' websites- They NEVER reply.

    Thanks for your response!
I actually looked up ebay this morning and emailed a dealer in the UK selling the calipers. He is quoted £60 incl vat + postage and packing. However he said a surcharge would be added to the the bill which is refundable once I post the old caliper back to them. Can they do this?
What would they want with the old one?

Are you buying a used caliper or re-conditioned?

This is perfectly normal- it's an exchange price. You presumably buy a re-conditioned one off the shelf. They take your old one and re-condition it and put it back on the shelf for the next person.

You can also just buy them at full cost and throw the old ones in the bin if the 'core' charge is very low and the postage is very high or your own is beyond repair.

There's a few 323's of that era in a breakers yard in Kilcock.
    Kilcock Car Dismantlers, (01)6285671
Otherwise try traynors up in Armagh. Do a search on boards for Traynors - they deliver to Dublin farely often.
    Try this link http://80.76.198.40/

The problem could be one of two things:
    1. that the caliper is stuck on and not releasing the pads from the disc causing worn pads, or
    2. the caliper on the opposite side of the car is not working at all, making the caliper thats wearing the pads do all the braking.

    I could be wrong though....

It's a reconditioned one coming from England. Although the shop seems reputable I would prefer to get one here in case I had any problems. £135 and you get £35 back if you return the old one.

Thanks for that number. I have rang the breakers in Kilcock and they are to come back to me. fingers crossed.... Knowing my luck it will be the opposite caliper that is faulty.
