Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

I want to go back to college and hope to become a secondary school teacher so I'm assuming the Higher Diploma in Education is what I need to do. Just wondering - my base degree is Commerce - does that limit me to the subjects I can teach?

I'm happy to become a Business teacher but I don't want to teach Accounting or Economics - I would prefer to teach maybe Irish or French instead. Does anyone know the story with this? I've had a look on the UCC website but it's pretty vague....

    Cheers

Commerce limits you to the subjects in that degree.

If you wanted to teach French Irish you would have to have done commerce with one of them or have a degree in it. The National Teaching council will list the courses which would qualify you to teach certain subjects.

Have you been doing substitute teaching at all? Just before you spend money on a course, try to get a feel for weather teaching id for you.

Competition for secondary teaching is huge also. They had a public talk on it for students this year in UCC and over 400 people came, compared to 30 last year.
