Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    ^^^^
    Another IS200!

Also, was behind that exact Xantia yesterday on the North Quays :eek::eek: I remember it because it's quite rare to see one in estate guise.... Only to see another one further down, a HDi this time :o

Looked rather clean either way :)

Wording is a little ambiguous, but my reading of it is that it passed the NCT 2 months ago and hence should have a decent length left. Wondering if heating up could simply be a thermostat/radiator issue rather than gasket worry?

Granted its the weedy 1.6, and reasonably high miles, but if it does have test and the heating is a small issue then I reckon you could do a lot worse for €650

Nct till Feb 14 on that BMW

Overheating rules it out for bangeromics though.

Regardless of the root cause of the heating issue the possibility it's been cooked is quite high and hard to access pre purchase.

    This looks potentially decent...........

Not a car that'll be in much demand but for people who want some V6ness in their life it might appeal...

95K miles, NCT until Santa time, asking €1450.

2001 Carisma with an NCT for a year, 88k miles asking €1099...

For someone doing a decent commute who wants a cheap yoke, 2000 Focus diesel with 11 months NCT, 102k miles and the seller claims the belt was done at 100k miles :) Asking €1400 which isn't overly cheap but if the car is genuine it's not too bad.

    I imagine you're right :D

Wouldn't be too worried about the 149k miles if it runs well and you get the impression it has been maintained. These 6 pots are strong and should take another 100-150k miles. I'd be a bit more worried about the life of the box...

It does have a short NCT but has plenty of Tax left over and supposedly a Full Service History and low-ish miles.

Tbh Very little goes wrong with these cars and they usually don't take much to get through an NCT, Still I would be pushing the owner to NCT it before purchase as it's nearly within the 3 months early test period.

IMO If a potential buyer goes in with their eyes open this could turn out to be a great bangernomics car.

If it's inside the three month test period I'm wondering why any dealer worth their salt wouldn't NCT it again and lob another few hundred on the asking.

Going in with your eyes open could be said for many of the cars on here without NCT though tbh.

Tax is a bonus though it's only worth about €250 quid.

They might well be happy to get rid of it as is without having to NCT it. Some dealers really have next to know interest in investing any effort in low value stuff, rightly or wrongly that's how many of them operate.

Add in the cost of the test, the time taken to get it there (staff lad who might well be of more value to the company doing something else for that hour or so) etc and many traders would just like to see does someone bite as is.

They might well have made very decent money on the car the Corolla was traded against (not saying it was a trade in just surmising).

Depends really, it comes down to weighing up resources required and possible reward, if they reckon it's sound and also reckon they can flick it on as is (the asking isn't overly cheap anyway imo) I can appreciate why they'd try to.

To be fair it might only have landed into them recently, they might be planning on putting it in for a test, better to have it advertised than not though :)

Lazy and busy can result in similar results :)

I got a few hundred off a car once as I told the dealer there was no service history so in my eyes it'd need a belt immediately, prior to that chat I'd found a FSH in the owners manual in the glovebox :)

Aye, I know James, there are many more nuances out there than the black & white and the sense of suspicion often depicted in this thread, by myself and others :)

Especially with regards to the NCT, there are many reasons why someone would not have NCTd their car. Been there myself. Car not insured means I will not drive it to an NCT center. Ever.

That said, this is a buyers thread. You can't blame a buyer for looking elsewhere when there's something he doesn't like. Plenty of fish left in the sea!

i love ZR's. most are a nice drive, well spec'd and handsome :)

but i just wouldn't (as a bangernomic). cheap to run and reliable, realistically they are not. they are a great car when they are going good, but they are very temperamental and a bit soft.

they are like an alfa imo - great looking, have character and offer plenty of reasons to own one. but also need an owner to love it and persevere with it :pac:

I have primera series II, am changing soon, no more Nissan for me, not like post 90s versions. Can only think of Accord in budget but might be other options? Under €2000, happy if less than €1500. Notions for me? :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 890 ✭✭✭dh0011

    avensis

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 634 ✭✭✭cabb8ge

I like mark 1 Avensis but Accord seem more bargain to me, thanks for reply :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 890 ✭✭✭dh0011

    dont rule out the avensis
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4830764
also the bulk of the mark 1 avensis are 1.6 while the accord will be 1.8 so tax will be a few bob more.

I am a bit biased - i am an avensis driver

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 634 ✭✭✭cabb8ge

    I hope for 2.0 :)
Tax difference not too much more than 1.6

Tbh if i wanted accord, i would try to go "little" over 2k and get newer 2003/04 model - i personally love them.
If not, 2k should give you nice choice of cars(older model), and they still look good - even classy if come from caring previous owner - these days. Much better than Avensis imo.

€2000 budget with a 2.0 criteria opens up the possibilities to many yokes, an Avensis wouldn't be top of my list anyway...Accords are decent but the model in your budget are quite dated now imo.

Mazda 6 is worthy of consideration...

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4824620

No mileage specified but 2004 and almost a years NCT

    View2-18822028.jpeg

This one is asking €2250 so it's a budget stretch but there's 3 months tax on it, also a years NCT ish and 92k miles, looks very well kept...

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4906107

    View2-19244005.jpeg

    Not much NCT left admittedly.

This Accord creeps into budget but there must be a huge (ish) lash of miles on it I reckon....also a dent on the bonnet, still anything over 120k miles is considered high by many, on a car the guts of 10 years old I wouldn't be too bothered even at 200k miles if it was well cared for

You have to make sure to paint it through the centre, otherwise the car may side slip at speed :).

From experience a family member had/has with a Megane of that era, they really don't wear the miles well. It could be a good buy, but the interior and whole car in general really does feel like it has those miles as opposed to others if you get me?

6 months test, a months tax. nice enough yoke cleaned up if there's no hidden catch. you'd still see diesel carinas asking for more than that.

personally i'd say that polo has seen hard life and i'd avoid it like the plague.

it does have a long list of recent work carried out and a fresh test i'l give it that. but no way would i but it, not for half that price.

It's been pikeyed up a little bit, all can be undone mind you :)

You have to ask yourself, with a car done up like that, what kind of life has it had? Has it been regularly serviced instead of spending money on looks? Why has it had a new gearbox?

    I'd tread with caution....
