Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Residents of east Galway have criticised Iarnród Éireann because too many trains speed through their local station without stopping.

A group has been formed to pressurize rail bosses into improving services at Woodlawn Station.

"Dublin to Galway trains pass through Woodlawn throughout the day, but only four stop there going west, and another four going east. We want Iarnród Éireann to make sure that the other trains also stop in Woodlawn too," said Michael Kilgannon of the Woodlawn Heritage Group, which has brought together more than 400 locals in a protest campaign.

"The first train to Dublin leaves Woodlawn each day at 5.57am, but the next one is not until 3.27pm, which is a very long gap. And people don't know what trains do stop in Woodlawn - they are very confused," he said.

Iarnród Éireann spokesman Barry Kenny said the company would look at including further stops for Woodlawn when it completed its new schedule in December. Existing services at the station would be maintained, he promised.

    Services Woodlawn Galway
    7:34 arrive 8:20
    9:07 arrive 9:47
    13:25 arrive 14:07
    21:12 arrive 21:46

    Galway Woodlawn
    5:30 arrive 5:57 (Dublin 8:20)
    15:00 arrive 15:27 (Dublin 17:40)
    18:30 arrive 19:06 (Dublin 21:22)
    21:10 arrive 21:39 (Athlone 22:15)

I see no problems with that solid service suitable for commuting, you can get to Galway do a full days work and even go out have a meal and get home

Many would argue for the closure of Woodlawn and I tend to agree it doesn't serve anywhere its a cross roads in the middle of nowhere, given the one way there is by car its only 15 minutes more to Ballinasloe

This is local politician looking for votes, without bothering to take the time to actually understand that supporting the idea of people in Galway commuting to Dublin is neither sensible nor sustainable which takes resources away from services eleswhere. Put simply no justification in providing any additional commuter timed services towards Dublin, first train gets to Dublin 8:20 am last train back leaves 7:05 pm. A stop in Woodlawn adds at least 4 minutes to a journey not to mention incurs extra costs in terms of fuel, brake wear etc. In the morning there is no other train towards Dublin to stop anyway the first gets to Dublin at 8:20 the next 10:15 which is way too late

And if they can't read a timetable.......

If IE opened Oranmore they'd probably do the same pax no. in days as Woodlawn does in a year.

longish IRN thread on the subject here.

How do you stop Oranmore-bound commuters hogging seats on the Dublin-bound trains in the evening? Many Northern Line trains form Dublin do not stop at Howth Junction in the evening.

Since intercity trains won't be serving Oranmore it won't be a problem, a dedicated commuter service will be in place
