Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Wednesday 18th October 2006, 9.30 am – 1.00.pm

The Davenport Hotel, Merrion Square, Dublin 2

    http://www.cilt.ie/article_72.shtml

    Introduction

The subject of the Great Transport Debate, is the Government’s 21st Century Transport Plan for 21st Century Ireland'.

The key objectives of the event are:

To identify the main challenges to the implementation of Transport 21 strategy
To identify key requirements of the commercial & trade transport sectors to 2020.
To define possible scenarios for 2020 and the pre-requisites for achieving desirable outcomes.

John Bowman, Broadcaster and Historian will chair the event.

The format of the debate will take the form of Questions and Answers where the debate will be driven by audience questions. A high profile line-up of panellists will address the issues. The panel has been specifically selected to represent each of the transport modes – air, sea, rail and road.

The Great Transport Debate is a unique opportunity for transport professionals and commentators to debate the challenges facing Transport 21 with those organisations who are directly involved in its implementation.

A keynote interview with a well-known transport figure will initiate the discussion. The interview will be followed by an overview of the Transport 21 Strategy by Pat Mangan, Assistant Secretary, Department of Transport with responsibility for Transport 21 and Integration. The floor will be open following each segment where questions can be directed at the panel.

    Who should attend?

The Great Transport Debate has been designed for transport professionals and planners who are directly involved with strategic transport decisions such as:

    Transport Professionals
    Transport Planners & Economists
    Transport organisations
    Port and airport authorities
    Third level institutions
    Transport consultancies

Excuse my cynicism, but this looks like just another talking shop where a lot of waffle will take place, but nothing concrete will be decided upon.

To have all those so-called interested parties attend is just an damning indictment of how fragmented our transport system is, instead of having one super authority for the Greater Dublin Area.

Each has their own view and agenda, while the ordinary commuting citizen dreads the gridlock from stupid occurrences like the start of the new school term or a bit of heavy rain.

Debate is all well and good - but too many cooks......

True - but at least it is publicising that T21 is a sham, and will keep public focus on what the government are actually doing to sort out the gridlock.

We need a central authority but in the absense of that all that can be done is keep the pressure on the Government.

€100 to go and listen to that bunch of self-promoters and apologists for the current mess. Bargain.

Yep. A few heads got a day off work and listened to the usual tripe about T21and Transport in general. The same old suspects turned up to deliver their well spun bile and it was a nice day out. No controversy, because its always best to keep that sort of thing, well away from the well fed minions who offer themselves up at the altar of transport in modern day Ireland.
