I have about 2-300 quid, looking for a second hand bike, my current one is a peugeot road bike from the early 90's that looks to be on the way out after many many miles of faithful service. I'm looking for something light and quick. I browsed a few threads and the Carrera TDF, Castello Monza all have bad reviews, could anyone point me in the right direction brandswise.

    Cheers

Spent my lunch googling and on Done deal.

Lemond Botranger etape, is this worth the money?

He's really put the effort in with that ad. 59cm is a pretty big frame, just to be aware.

Depends on lots of factors such as inseam, geometry etc but I'd say a 59cm frame would be (literally) stretching it.

Can't see a whole lot from the ad tbh. Plenty of bikes in that price range on adverts too, including what looks like the one on donedeal with a bit more info; http://www.adverts.ie/road-bikes/lemond-bontrager-e-tape/8326250 No front mech or gears, and a hacked lever on the bar tops for the rear cassette. Doesn't look like €300 worth to me, maybe stick a wanted ad in the adverts section here and see what comes up.

Thanks, will do. What do you mean by front mech?

The mechanism which lifts the chain from one front ring to another.

That LeMond is probably a fairly basic 8 speed triple. I'd stay well clear of any sellers who don't include a few close up pics of relevant parts or who use terminology such as "too many extras to list". It gives the impression that they know very little about the particular bike - i.e. may not be the owner.

Add says 18 speed ultegra, pics show tiagra (cheaper), and I don't see any gear shifters on the levers or frame. IMHO, overpriced but better than the Lemond.

The colour scheme wouldn't appeal to me but that's a personal thing. It's probably ok at that price - you might get it for €250.

It's described as a 16 speed which is technically correct as it's 8x2 but that would generally be referred to as an "8 speed". The rear derailleur is described as Ultegra but it's a Tiagra (i.e. 2 levels down). The brakes are described as "Shimano" which is fairly meaningless as it doesn't say which level.

Thanks very much lads, this is headwrecking buying something you know nothing about. Also the people putting up the ads, how hard is it to stick the make and model in the title....smh. I've sent off a few messages asking for more info and bigger pics. The Lemond is out of the picture.

Aluminium frame and nice wheels, ?

I realise you don't have enough posts here to post usable links but it would be easier for use when having to copy and paste your 'link' to Google if we didn't have to tidy it up first - i.e. don't leave spaces between the characters! ;)

Almost useless pictures taken from the non-drive side! What is wrong with these people? Are they trying their best to put people off?

"The frame is all aluminium .with all 105 sets . the mavic cosmic elite wheels are in excellent condition and worth the asking price alone . ."

I messaged asking him for more info, and thats what he sent back, asked for more pics also. Its a bizarre way to sell anything, rubbish pics, no info..

It has 8 speed Sora shifters (with the thumb buttons), and to be honest it's basically the same bike as the LeMond, having the trek myself, and knowing someone with the LeMond!
