Hard drive error

    I am having an issue with my WD hard drive.

    Some files are corrupted and unreadable it says.

    Another file I had typed disappeared.

    I ran Security Essentials but nothing showed up.

    I am trying to check for errors with the CHKDSK thingy but it stalls at 1137 files.

    What can I do to fix it?

    Is this an external hard drive yeah?

    Sorry should have confirmed, yes external.

    I used eset to scan and deleted the relevant files so it appears to be fixed now.
    (Microsoft Sec. Essentials did not pick up anything)
