    Needlessly expensive piece of technology.

Many sensibly priced pieces of technology.

Some whiskey and at least 1 cigar. That's what I generally go for.

Were I to get a promotion I'd actually take a Friday/Monday off if possible and have a relaxing weekend for myself before tearing into work again.

Probably look to have a couple of pints, I've never had a massage so I could go for that, a walk around Killarney National park and I suppose you'd have to put a cigar in there - preferably smoked whilst listening to the smooth tones of Otis Redding

A weekend away break is what I always did (if the promotion came with a payrise).

    Congrats, btw!

I was going to see if someone else mentioned this but if you don't have a massive Irish breakfast after whatever you plan then Ill be very disappointed.

Nice Chinese massage with happy ending, then the full Irish breakfast/brunch

"I'm sorry embraer170, but I'm going to have to demote you to your previous position."

    "What!?! But why?"

"You arrived to work today on a motorbike, with a prostitute on the back, absolutely stinking of whiskey and cigar smoke, and began demanding the secretary give you a hot stone massage in exchange for your new Omega watch."

"But! It's not my fault! Strangers on the internet told me to do it!"

I'd go for a new top of the range smart 50" tv with accompanying surround sound system!

I'm in the same boat as the OP, stuck for ideas. Not really into gadgetry.

Maybe a really nice restaurant, or a holiday somewhere you've really wanted to go, but never got around to.

If you're into wine/whisk(e)y/beer, some really good bottles.

Most of the stuff I'm into involves self-improvement through work or effort (keeping fit, competitive chess, languages) so there aren't really any "throw money at it" short cuts.

If I could choose something, it would be time off to go on a long holiday, but with great power comes great responsibilities, and more hours in the office!

If you travel, a set of Bose QC-15 noise canceling headphones. Expensive but worth it.

So are you enjoying making the burgers instead of the fries?

    Thanks for the ideas....

I'd love a very long holiday but work + family commitments won't allow for it in the near future. I have all the computers, mobile phones and electronic gadgets I want. I have a nice car so upgrading that now would be unreasonable...
