Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Photo was taken at a bird of prey 'Aviary' open to the public( small fee)--Le Rocher des Aigles
I have it recorded as an African Fish Eagle

Also there – this I think is a Himalayan Vulture

They look like young parasol mushrooms. They get bigger than that as they get older.

Went out for a stroll saturday evening with the dog around 8.

Walking past a stream i saw a plastic bag from a nearby farm in the water.
I went over to pull it out of the water.
Just as i was walking away something caught the corner of my eye.

What i saw was the little fella below, sitting in the weeds just on the edge of the water.

There are lots of cats and foxes around so i took off my hoody and despite his feisty protestation i managed to wrap him up and bring him home.
I contacted the local nwps officer who put me onto Animal magic in Kilmallock.

He is now in their capable hands.
Must find out how he is doing.

I've seen this bird on and off around Wexford while down here on holidays, I had thought it was a kestrel when I saw it from a distance hovering around a nearby field / cliff area beside the sea - mostly in Spring or early summer, I've not seen him again until today... He came up closer this morning and I got some shots while he sat on a branch for about 10 mins. I had to take it from the window so a little blurred - a friend said it looks more like a sparrowhawk and from a google search it does appear to be - can anyone confirm? Amazing bird anyway, loved getting multiple photos of him (or her...)

Silly little bird flew into my window today.

Looks like a chaffinch/sparrow juvenile maybe? Not sure.
He was stunned for a bit, his legs/wings/neck seemed okay.
Left it in a box with no lid outside so he could fly away when he felt ready - flew off after half an hour.
Hope that was the right thing to do?

Yeah they're from earlier in the season - I have a huge backlog of photos I'll be going through over the coming weeks :p

Vast majority of them would be half red/half black now, there'd be barely any that look like those above now - maybe the odd first-time breeder that started very very late this season.

    (2) Yes.
    (3) Possibly Ruddy. Common Darter has a pale stripe on dark legs.
    (4) Yes, possibly Nowickia spec. This is a good place to possibly get it down to species: http://www.diptera.info/news.php
