    Hi everyone,

I've just started running (use my 5k App) and am looking for some advice.

What would you recommend as a good starter running shoe to purchase?

What kind of price range am I looking at?

Also, is the Gait Analysis offered by Elverys worth doing?

I am a complete novice to would greatly appreciate any tips or advice.

    Cheers!

Best thing to do is go get a gait analysis carried out in a shop that specialises in running.

Haven't personally used Elverys but haven't heard good things. Happy with my current running shop so keep going back for every second pair(8 months ish) for a fresh analysis

There is no one best shoe, for any stage of a running career, by brand or type or anything else. The shoe just has to suit you. Most runners go through years of searching for the one silver bullet shoe that does it all, but end up with loads of shoes 😊 Studies show that gait analysis is statistically as effective as deciding the right shoe based on how it feels on first trying it on, so get some guidance in a shop, but ultimately make your own choice and spend what it takes for a shoe you like. I have €40 shoes and €150+ shoes, I can't say one is better than the other.

The advice I give beginners is to use whatever running type shoes you have access too. Don't put too much thought into it at this early stage. Get yourself out the door and running first.

If the shoes are causing unexpected (muscle soreness is normal) problems right away or by week 4/5 then investigate new shoes and bring your trainers with you.

If you get to week 4/5 without any adverse effects then consider new shoes as a reward when you complete the program at week 9 and are running more consistently. You will get more benefit form this and you will have a better awareness of you with regards running which will all help narrow down the shoe search.

Effectiveness of gait analysis is all dependent on the person looking at the screen.

90% of shoe suggestions come not from the video but from listening to your history (recent and all that it is).

Best of luck with the running journey - enjoy it!! :)

There are so many choices and so many things to take into consideration before you purchase. Many runners like the feel that a gel-filled sole gives them, ASICS Gel Kayano have both forefoot and rearfoot gel systems. great for absorbing shock during impact (when your foot touches the ground) and toe-off (when you push back off the ground during your next stride).

That's one example among 100's of possibilities.

The only reason the ASICS Kayano is perpetuated as a great running shoe is because some old guys in the running club swear by them and because they are so expensive people reckon they are the best.
