Closest you could get is Ballinagar on Bus Eireann route 120 which would be about 2 miles away.

It wouldn't be advisable to walk it though and Ballinagar is only a village so you would need to have a local taxi booked.

By train, either Portarlington or Tullamore, both are about 10-12 miles away.


Edit: Forgot about Slieve Bloom. They operate a once a day Mon-Fri service from Geashill to Dublin out at 6.25am returning from Dublin at 5.30.

They also do a mon-sat service from Portlaoise-Portarlington-Geashill-Tullamore that you could possiblt connect to from train/bus from Dublin.
