Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

stay well away from raven!!!! i got 2 there when i was 16 and they are awful!! one is a flower on my shoulder and it looks like i got it 40 years ago!! its so patchy and the colour has faded loads. i also got stars and the lines arent straight at all!! he just doesnt care what you end up with on your body as long as he makes money out of you! would definatley not recommend him!!!

got 2 done by jay in smiley dogg and i love them!! he is a perfectionist and can add his own touch to any tattoo even if its not his own favourite style! he also came up with great ideas for mine!! would definatley recommend him!

also heard great things about karen russell, never went to her but she comes highly recommended!!

If the bad reports about the place have you worried, then cancel it and re-book somewhere else! You're getting something put on your body that'll most likely be there for life. Doesn't that warrant being sure about where you're getting it done, and the artist that is doing it so that you are confident that it'll turn out well?

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 Hot Blonde

That is true!! But i went to the another place and they were very snapy and rude. But the guy in Raven was nice. I explained exactly why i wanted it and he understood!!! And helped get an idea what i wanted!! But the other place just wasnt nice! Yet my friend went there and she recomeneded it!!!! Did u get one done at Ravens??

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 Hot Blonde

Why?? And which one Brian?? I cant remember the one i talked to!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭Gauge

Brian is the name of the artist in Raven.

From what I have seen of his work (and quite a few of my friends have tattoos from there, because they are not at all strict about age limits) it does not match up to Tattoo Zoo, Tribal Ink, Smiley Dogg, or Holy Cow in terms of quality at all. And quite a few of them have had problems with scarring and ink being blown out. I drew up a design for one of my friends (a very basic sun, with a spiral) and he refused to do it saying "I don't do spirals- too hard" which set off major alarm bells for me- it was a very simple design.

This is all anecdotal so take from it what you will, but having seen his work first hand and spoken to him I would go to someone else. There are better artists in Cork.

Those are questions you should ask the artist that will be doing them, as it will vary :) Also you are not limited to the pictures on the walls- if you find another picture you like you can bring it in to show it to them and they can draw you something based on that.

I don't have any tattoos myself but I have seen good work come out of Tattoo Zoo, Holy Cow, Tribal Ink and Smiley Dogg- if I was getting a tattoo I'd check out all 4 of these places and see who had the portfolio/style to match what I want.

1 - It's on Kyle Street, off the Coal Quay. 9 Kyle St. if memory serves me correctly. I don't have a number, sorry.
    2 - Sorry, nope. It's 27 Marlboro St. though.
    3 - I hear it's pretty dodgy.
4 - I think you're thinking of the Sushi shop that's underneath Smily Dogg. Smily Dogg is on the second floor I think? There's a skate shop on the first and a sushi shop on the ground floor AFAIK.

Try Tattoo Zoo maybe? 0214271243 http://tattoozoo.ie/ or alternatively just pop into Tribal Ink or Smily Dogg. Good luck =D

EDIT: I should really read the thread more, you've already been to Tattoo Zoo. Well then I'd say just pop into Tribal Ink or Smily Dogg. Neither of them have websites that I can see, sorry.

I'd bet you'd have to go in and make an appointment, I'm not sure if they do walk-ins, or if they do I have no idea. Only way to find out is to call in.

Nope, no tattoos, I'm only 17 now so it'd be a good few months before I'd even think of getting anything. I just know too much stuff =P

I got a small piece done by Raul from Smiley Dog when he was working for a different studio (Metal Urges, formally of Killarney, currently in Tralee), I can't fault it in the slightest, he gave me exactly what I asked for.

It really depends how busy they are, I have not been up there since it was XXX, so I don't really know.

You can more than likely walk in and get it done if he has no appointments booked for the next while (depending on how long the tattoo will take obv), but there is really no way of knowing until you ask. That being said however, the better a tattooist is, the higher the likelyhood that he will be already booked out on a specific day (Especially saturdays).

I know a good few studios don't take bookings for Saturdays, and have it walk-in only. Obviously though you should check with them first though, and if they do, get in there as soon as you can after they open to have the best chance of getting one done!

It was a pain in the ass to find it, but it's mentioned at the end of this page - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055254800&page=2
    (021) 4279008

    Might be worth a try.

Please note, it's difficult to get an appointment over the phone, generally an artist will want to see a piece before estimating how long it will take.

hi people. don't know should I start new thread or not. Am looking for a good tattooist who isn't) based in cork or surrounding areas who does good work - sprecialising in dragons + shading. Am designing my tattoo at the moment so am looking to find someone who is good at this type of work. I got my 1st tattoo in tattoo zoo in cork over 6 yrs ago but dont know any of the guys there now - cant remember was it kieran who did my original one. while im getting that, my bf wants to get a backpiece of 2 tribal dragons i'm helping him design round same time. recommendations greatly appreciated. cheers
