Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is there not a way of checking this? I have no idea.

I know Mourad loves being a media diva but this shouldn't be in public.

It never changes with him. Papers all full of him moaning about how he pays a fortune for these foreign players and it turns out that they were injured or want to play international rugby during the club season. Wah wah wah, it's so unfair, why did nobody tell me...

Is that even possible? Surely he would had to have had a medical carried out on him. Is it actually possible to disguise an injury that is debilitating enough to keep you out of the game for a longish period of time?

Well that's what I was wondering myself.

But maybe with a groin injury you could push through the pain for one day.

Giteau is told to enjoy empty stadiums at Racing Metro by Mourad!

This is like a running soap with this guy. Does he not have other businesses to run apart from his rugby team?

I think it was more a dig at Lorenzetti than Giteau, tbf.

I thought Bakkies and Smith had retired from international rugby when they signed on at Toulon.

How many away wins this weekend? And what will be the match of the round?

Montpellier v Stade is probably the tie of the round, but La Rochelle v Bordeaux will be more entertaining.

    Toulon might win at Brive.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭sydneybound

Oh La Rochelle my new favourite club! That game will certainly be high scoring!

Racing Metro V Toulouse should be good also. Noves needs a result here but doubt he will get it.

Should be an easy home win fro Grenoble, Clermont to get a bonus point win and Brive to narrowly beat Toulon at home.

    Toulon might win at Brive.

Not exactly a full-strength Toulon side but still well capable of the win.

One thing Racing should be admired for is the number of French/French Eligible players in their squad. In their 23 for Toulouse I count 15 French and 18 French eligible when you include Van Der Merwe, Le Roux and Claassen.

    Toulon beating Brive 22-13.

Good game so far with a Brive 2nd row receiving a straight red card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Toulon went on to hockey Brive: 13-53. All eight tries were scored by backs: Wulf (3), Mitchell (2), Delon (2) and 1 each for STB and Mermoz.

Another match ruined by an early red card. I think it was a bit harsh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

Never seen a French team lose so badly at home. It's tough when a player sees red but with that score they'd hardly have come close anyway.

Yeah though I think Toulon had a point to prove yesterday. They wanted to show to everyone that they were up and ready and last week home defeat was an accident.

I remember the game we played home to Castres when Castres also received an early red card, we inconsciously "stopped" playing at HT. TBP was almost already secured and it really looked like we took it easy in the second half. Yesterday Toulon never stopped. They were there to score tries and they did. If they could have scored 15 tries they'd have done so. Could be a deceptive result...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

In any case Brive look like they're in big trouble. Not only failing to get results at home but lacking bonus points and playing really really poorly. All teams should be targeting a win there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,262 ✭✭✭iroced

True that their next game home to Bordeaux will already be crucial. Can't afford to lose again which would be a 3rd home defeat out of 5 home games.

Just about the LBP this year. With the new 5 pts margin rule they could be less important for the bottom sides (I mean all bottom teams should get less LBP) and more important for the top ones (that's where the difference could lie in the final top 6 rankings).

LaRochelle 26-19. All home teams won so far today.

Edit - they ended up losing 29-26!!

    Clermont 23
    Toulon 19
    Bordeaux 17
    Racing 17
    Stade F 17
    Grenoble 16
    Montpellier 14
    Oyonnax 11
    Toulouse 10
    Bayonne 10
    La Rochelle 10
    Castres 10
    Lyon 9
    Brive 9

It's been a competitive opening to the season. No team has been useless (Lyon and Brive have both won twice) while top side Clermont have lost once.

That Montpellier V Stade Francais game was pretty poor.

    Like that it's better :D.
BPs and W,D,L ratio in bracket

    Clermont 23 (3) / (5,0,1)
    Toulon 19 (3) / (4,0,2)
    Montpellier 18 (2) / (4,0,2)
    Bordeaux 17 (1) / (4,0,2)
    Racing 17 (1) / (4,0,2)
    Stade F 17 (1) / (4,0,2)
    Grenoble 16 (4) / (3,0,3)
    Oyonnax 11 (3) / (2,0,4)
    Toulouse 10 (2) / (2,0,4)
    Bayonne 10 (2) / (2,0,4)
    La Rochelle 10 (2) / (2,0,4)
    Castres 10 (2) / (2,0,4)
    Lyon 9 (1) / (2,0,4)
    Brive 9 (1) / (2,0,4)

What's interesting is Oyonnax getting more bonii. Definitely a lot more than last year! 3 in 6 games (and they were not far off a 4th one this afternoon in Castres) vs 5 in 26 !
I guessed they learned their lesson. They know they were just due to stay in top 14 last year for some stupidity from Marty in their return game versus Perpignan which impeded USAP to get a TBP victory and gave the edge to Oyonnax in the head to head rankings. So to avoid waiting till the last min of the last game stressfully they take the points when they are on offer this year. That's a good sign.
But they now have a horrible fixtures list to come: they're gonna play the top 5 in their next 6 games! Let's see how many points they'll collect. if they survive this period outside the relegation zone, not only it should overboost their mindset but it'd also impress their "direct" opponents.

Then, I know it's only 5 games but Toulouse struggling and Bordeaux & Grenoble inviting themselves to the top 6 battle seems like a confirmation. For how long?

Is Hart no longer the starter in Grenoble? Was watching the game earlier and he was on the bench.

You could feel from the sky team that they'd obviously much prefer covering the prem then some boring French game!

Toulon are the most represented with 7 players. Rory Kockott has been called up along with Kiwi prop Uini Atonio from La Rochelle. No place for Parra or Machenaud who were both named in the France 30 group for the season, whose gametime is limited.

One player to look out for is Ollivon from Bayonne in the absence of Picamoles who is out due to illness.

How sick is Picamoles if he won't be back before November?

He is aiming at end of October for a progressive come back after severe chest infections ... he needs to have a proper fitness program to come back so he's definitely rules out of the November tests.
