Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

This is a question for the satellite specialists on this forum.
How much would it cost me to get a cable installed from my existing dish, located on the wall at the back of the garden, easily accessible, to the bedroom upstairs? It would be a run of about 20 meters, half of which would be along the garden wall. The bedroom is overseeing the back garden, so it's just a hole to be drilled to get the cable inside.

I bought a second receiver and I need to feed it from one of my existing LNBs.

EDIT: I'm asking here because the local installers want to charge me the €80 they usually charge for any installation, even though I'm not asking for a dish to be installed and tuned, or for a receiver configuration. I think this is too much for just the cable.

    Cheers,
    JP

I charge €80 for a call-out fee, any less is not worth my while.
You have to remember the time taken to get to the job, do the job and get on to the next one. Any tradesman would have a similar call-out fee regardless of how small the job is (plumbers, electrical etc.) as well as aerial/satellite riggers.

Therefore if you can't or don't want to do the job yourself, (very easy) €80 is not a bad price.

I'm not sure if this thread is a good idea as it surely invites advertising?

Ok, I got the answer I wanted. So it's not a rip-off scheme, just common practice to be charged 80 yoyos for a callout, regardless whether I want a full installation or just a cable run. I thought the local people tried to rip me :)

I guess I can do it myself. Buying the cable, the connectors and a drill bit should be less than half, and I can borrow a drill. I just wanted something tidy, and I'm too lazy to be tidy :D

I dont think they tried to rip you off but it may well be worth ringing around, you may get someone who has another job in the same area which may lead to a better quote.

There are just two ads in the paper and both told me the same thing Rippy said, that they charge a standard fee of 80 yoyos for a callout.
It's not like Galway is this huge satellite market, is it? Shopping around means calling both companies :D .
