Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hi all,

My dad currently has a sky subscription but wants to get rid of it.

I was looking at purchasing the below combi box:

    http://www.did.ie/4ife-hd-terrestrial-satellite-combo-set-top-box-sv-401-prd

Would if just be a case of removing the satellite connection from the sky box into this, connecting it to the TV and turning it in?

Sorry but new to all of this!

    Thanks in advance.

If he wants the Irish channels with that box, he'll need a UHF terrestrial aerial suitable for Saorview reception.

Yep, he'll need an external aerial for the Irish channels.

Both satellite and terrestrial plugged into the rear of combo box.

Thanks, so I can't use the existing connection from the satellite dish from the sky box? Would a set of rabbit ears work?

    Sorry Davo,

Will try and explain a bit better.

The existing dish will plug into the rear on the combo box, which will give you Freesat channels (ie BBC1,2,3,4, ITV1,2,3,4,etc).

You'll only need a terrestrial aerial, the existing satellite cabling installation will be fine.

Also there's an awful lot of sh1t as well as good stuff on the Freesat which you'll have to organize for your parents.

Don't know the box you're buying, ask the salesperson about "favourite settings" and save all your wanted satellite and terrestrial channels to this.

With regard to "rabbit ears", this will depend on location of your parents house to the television mast.

If you can borrow "ears" play around with them and see if they work.

If you Google Tvtrade.ie you will find all the information in VIDEO TUTORIALS Re. Aerials /Satellite and how to install and connect any of the necessary equipment that you require.
A great site and a great Company to deal with.

    Be informed....knowledge is king.

Box will need tuning in, major problem with this box is their is no number shown on the front of the box and so some elderly people find it difficult locating the channel they want if poor eyesight.

I haven't used one in a while but the previous software on them was extremely poor, when you add a new channel it puts the entire lineup of channels out and has to be re-adjusted again from scratch.

I emailed electroplus regarding this problem and never ever received a reply...

I want to do exactly the same as this poster.

If this box isn't great steveon, can you recommend another that would do the same job? I want to cancel sky as it's €36 a month & we really can't justify spending that much at the min.

We've a digital telly but not saorview, so would need rabbits ears like Op. Definitely want one that pauses, rewinds, records if possible (and also able to watch another channel at the same time, or is that not possible?)

I set it up in the end, one connection using rabbit ears, the other using the feed from the old sky box. Works fine. Attached a USB HDD and can pause and playback etc.

    Happy with it so far.

So called rabbits aerials are VHF aerials for DAB and FM radio. UHF aerials for TV look like this:

    Hello,

Just to keep the information on this box here.

Does anyone know the formats that the media player supports ?

And If I have an aerial that currently used for saorview, can I split the feed of this to go into this box and my saorview tv?

    Thanks

Regarding the formats, I've tested it with AVI and mkv and it plays them without issue.

I've thrown mpeg1&2, mp4 and a .ts at this box and playback is flawless. Very happy so far - bought in July => SV 401
For my modest needs, HD recordings are glorious. I'll post AV data from the files in the next few days if anyone's interested.

Anyone willing to share their channel order file for the USB?

My mam has this box and has lost the channel order a few times. I've re programmed it a few times but sick of doing it now. Just noticed that you can save it to a USB stick. Anyone willing to share theirs? Thanks
