Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Le Horde

I would agree, la horde is one of the most perfect zombie films i've ever seen, has just the right balance of everything, plot/gore/tension/humour/epic deaths/frights.

I seriously considered learning french to better understand that film

Dead Set. It's not a movie but a 5 show mini tv series. It was set in the Big Brother house and is well worth a watch.

    Dawn of the Dead (Original)

    Night of the Living Dead

    Zombieland

    28 Days Later

    28 Weeks Later

Return of the Living Dead (1984) - sequels aren't up to much though

    Braindead

    Fido :D

Return of the Living Dead III is pretty good as gory zombie movies go, some great effects, not a comedy like ROTLD and ROTLD 2 though.

Dawn of the Dead Remake is brilliant, as is The Horde. I must be one of the few who though 28 Days later was good to a point, and then became boring. I thought 28 Weeks was respectable as well.

Resident Evil series is worth a watch, started to get very bad after the 3rd one though.

1990 Night of the Living dead is good. Planet Terror is definitely worth a watch.

Some of the 80's Italian imitations are worth watching for the gruesome special effects, if nothing else.

For me, the absolute king of Zombie movies is Braindead. Total gorefest.

  • Registered Users Posts: 746 ✭✭✭ladypip

Braindead is without a shadow of a doubt the worst movie ever made in any genre! I think ive ranted about it in this forum before.

For me: Dawn of the dead remake & Dead Set.

So many to choose from but if I was to shortlist for me its gotta be

Dawn of Dead remake and Dead Set (the producer was one of best characters ever imo) and Diary of the Dead also was great.

The horde was also a great flick but my fave foreign zombie offering is a film called Rambbock Berlin Undead.

Also, Pontypool has to get an honorable mention. As you can tell I have a preference towards the initial societal breakdown / confusion angles in zombie flicks.

Fully in agreement with you, I preffered the alternative endings and didn't like the army aspect at all was very out of place I thought

Zomblies is a good one about soldiers cut off from their extraction point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,069 ✭✭✭Tzar Chasm

ah yes pontypool, its not the end of the world, just the end of the day

interesting premis for the spread of the virus. and it had at least one n screen zombie so it counts

  • Registered Users Posts: 601 ✭✭✭Slow_Runner

Dead Snow - very well made and very funny
    28 Days Later
Dead Set was pretty good mini series
    Dawn of the Dead remake
1st Resident Evil - the rest were shockingly bad

Warm Bodies not as bad as you'd expect, not a classic zombie flick but not too bad

    well mine are

    28 days
    28 weeks
dawn of dead remakes (the 2004 and the 90's one), make sure to watch after final credits of the 2004 one, kinda bleak and if you have the dvd there is the extra on the gun shop guy which is 'different' and a nice twist as well...if only they had waited). also some of the characters from the 90's one appear in the 2004 remake which is kinda cool.
    la horde
zombieland -- even have a t-shirt from that
world war z even if its pants compared to the book, i can switch off on the stupid parts
pontypool, very different not everyones cup of tea
the dead - suprisingly good and was not expecting it to be
    shaun of the dead
deadgirl, but its dealing with really disturbing issues
    planet terror...simply because....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,265 ✭✭✭youtube!

For me it has to be "City of the living dead" 1980 gory and tense throughout really excellent movie and quite unknown.

Also honourable mention to Zombie flesh eaters, the end scene with the radio announcer telling us that they are coming and then aaaaarrrrrrggghhhh is a classic.

Absolutely amazing set of films but for me they are demons! Also some of the characters didn't even die but became possessed anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,751 ✭✭✭✭degrassinoel

You might be right about them being demons, the necronomicon had various demonic rights in it. Apparently reading them aloud brought the dead back to life - or in the case of the second movie, playing a recording of a reading..

Still, i reckon it could be classified as a zombie flick as well as a demon one - but then even 'Demons' by Dario Argento was effectively a zombie movie too

Good points in fairness, talking of Dario Argento have you ever watched Suspiria? Super film.

Think all the best ones have been mentioned so I'll throw a few more in that I enjoyed.

Rammbock Berlin Undead - Only an hour long but extremely enjoyable. I find the main guy a bit annoying though.

The Dead 2 - I've seen The Dead mentioned (the one set in Africa), well there's a second one now. Its set in India and not bad movie at all.

Dead Meat - I loved this. Irish zombie movie :pac: The aul fella in this is gas.

Cemetery man - A classic. Not everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed it.

Pontypool... great movie, I was captivated by the dj voice more than the movie itself. Pure smooth listening.

edited just to add the zombie diaries and ZD 2 are pretty decent viewing as well.

Going to look at the returned soon, sounds promising.

Probably not a real zombie movie, but warm bodies was decent I thought.

    And of course
    28 days later
    28 weeks later
(Any sign of 28 months later???)
    Dawn of the dead remake

Btw, zombies should always be fast and sprint everywhere! Yep, I said it!

    You're the first! Congrats!

Yeah, they referred to them as infected in the film and it was a rage virus - still classified as zombie genre movie though..

28 days later is an amazing film.
It's so good which is what makes it terrifying too.
Wasn't there loads of rumors about one after 28 weeks later set in mainland Europe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭CD8ED

Supposedly, but I think that there were ownership issues and some people were getting ants in their pants about it!

From wiki so take it as ya will: "In October 2010, when Alex Garland was asked what was happening with 28 Months Later, he declared: "I'll answer that completely honestly. When we made 28 Days Later, the rights were frozen between a group of people who are no longer talking to each other. And so, the film is never going to happen unless those people start talking to each other again"
