FG and Inds Government?

Just wondering about this, there doesn't really seem to be much mention of a FG/Inds Government.

    It's all about a FG/Labour Government.

TV3 are predicting (probably quite optimistically) 78 seats for FG and if that does in fact ring true,
they only need another 6 seats in order to make up a majority in the Dáil.

Would think that quite a few independents would be interested in being in Government,
or in getting as much for constituents as they possibly can.

Yes I think Labour are being optimistic thinking they will be in Government, FG could recruit a few trouble free independents.

If this happens, it will be a serious blessing in disguise for Labour in the long run.

In that case I say us Dubs build a wall around Dublin and declare a republic of Dublin.
The rest of you can keep your banana republic. We'll have a proper republic. Dublin voted Labour.

No problem, the banks HQ's are in Dublin.
Let Dublin sort that out ;)

    Maybe you voted for Labour.

I voted for FG and Independents.

You can build a tall wall around your house, Eamon Gilmore can join your republic if he wants.

The debt belongs to the banana republic, not the proper republic:)

Having a one-vote majority would bring the government down at any point. That's why I think FG/LAB sounds more credible due to the +100 TDs that would be part of such coalition.

Shane Ross was saying he woundn't re-join FG but would consider a group of independents with common goals dealing with them

Two problems I see with that, though I think it's the most likely scenario.

There'd be a large rump of back benchers with no chance at any type of ministerial position.

Labour have a habit of bringing down Governments.

The question of course is whether such a government would have enough of a majority to survive things such as by-elections etc.

What a great idea, then all us banana eaters could stop worrying about dubs escaping and moving to country. Luckily the ones around here who did that just wanted to get out of a "toxic dump full of junkies and cowboys". It would give employment to out of work builders in dubln too, it would be a job for life as with the standard of work down there the wall would be falling apart continually, they could just treat it like the fourth bridge, good luck with it,

A government of around 110 TDs is definitely un-charted territory.

Micheal Noonan just saying he didn't want to have to deal with "high maintenance independents" so FG/Lab coalition on the way!

I was thinking more like FG/low maintenance independents on the way

Strange that nobody has mentioned FG + FF. I know history yada yada but it would surely allow FG to implement their policies in their least diluted format....and allow FF to fade away completely by the next election.

Think long term. They might go the way of PDs in coalition with FG. :)

more likely that FF would wait until there was a crucial vote and then backstab and twist the knife

A deal with independents would mean that Labour would lead opposition so making FF irrelevant.

Ya because what happens in Dublin is the only thing that counts

By your reasoning Maybe a wall should be built around mayo because they voted FG or maybe a wall around Donegal south west because their shinners!

Its a General election i.e. a national poll for a national government just cause Dublin voted Labour doesn't make a blind bit of difference, its the overall votes nationwide that counts.

Oh indeed. My ideal scenario is Labour as majority opposition. I'm just thinking of all the ways that could happen. I'm desperately hoping they don't go into Government as the patsy.

As long as FG don't try using the likes of Lowsy & Squealy-Way!

I'm consistent and unaligned, and unacceptable actions aren't dependent on who does them.

Healey Rae would be plain outright difficult.

Lowry may relish a bit of revenge at some stage?

That leaves the Ind prospects rather squeaky tight for FG. Besides Ross, who else are like minded Inds? Former PD Grealish in GW if he gets elected maybe, not too well up on other Ind's.

Leo was just on RTE saying FG/Lab was the likely outcome so I think they've made their minds up ! Noonan sounded happy about they prospect while Varadkar sounded like a close friend had just passed away ...

John Gormley may join them. He was about to "get back on the horse..." when the RTE guy cut him off for an add break :pac: If only they had done that 2.5 years ago.

North Korea = Extreme authoritarian communism.

An extreme authoritarian corperate/capitalist state would resemble much of the same traits.
