    Meath Chronicle, 17.06.2006

CIÉ Property Management advertised it's 6.3 acre Bective Street, Kells, garage and lands for sale almost 15 months ago - and a recent check established that the property was still on the market, according to Kells Town Councillor, Connor Ferguson.

The councillor took issue with Deputy Johnny Brady, who last week claimed that both the Minister for Transport, Martin Cullen, and CIÉ chairman, Dr John Lynch, had confirmed to him that there were no plans to sell CIÉ property in the town.

His remarks followed a recent Meath Chronicle report that developers had been pressuring the national transport body to sell the site, located just off the Backlands Local Area Plan (LAP) district.

CIÉ Property Management last year advertised the 6.3 acre site (freehold) for sale and sought "proposals from developers for exchange of sites to provide replacement parking/garage facilities for Bus Éireann." Colr Ferguson said this placed Deputy Brady's claim in doubt. "But then there has been a change in Ministers for Transport," he added.

A CIÉ spokesman confirmed this week that the site had been advertised last year but added that the company had been examining it's options at that stage. A decision had since been taken not to progress any sale, a spokesperson added.
