Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thanks for this list, great inspiration and has helped me find some "gems"! Just had a bash of Easthill Mews and bl00dy hell it was tough! Given the location I'm surprised by how few people have tried it on Strava. A nice alternative to Slaughter Hill anyway and it probably needs an equally nasty name to do it justice!

Where would Red Lane in Wicklow figure in such a list? I only ask because it's on my back door and the only one I'm really familiar with.

On Strava it appears to be 2.3km @ about 8%. Would guess maybe top 50 but no idea!

    Spelga Dam been mentioned?

The climb to the TV mast on top of Black Mountain which overlooks Belfast. Very steep in places.

Slieve Gullion forest park near Forkhill Co Armagh is 23% in places. The surface is very good and the park is kept in great condition. The Giants Causeway tour in September features Torr Head which is also over 20%

Spelga Dam isn't particularly tough (and I say that as a mediocre climber). I went up it in crap weather with constant mist and heavy rain and I don't recall any steep parts. (Unless it's much different from the opposite direction). I recall a couple of particularly dangerous hairpins on the descent.

It's not steep really but I find it tough because of the length and how much I pushed it. Should have set in an easier gear and took my time.

The Divis Climb on black mountain is steep enough in places. I found that tough.

There are a couple of local ones in a nearby village of Tandragee called Glebe.

Barley Lake, interesting. I've done the other two. Priests Leap while massively unfit, considerably overweight, and fairly under geared a few years ago. I must try that again this summer. I did the Forest climb during the summer gone though on a 39x25 and it was tough. As tough in fact as I remember Priests being at the time. How much more difficult did you find Barley Lake?

Barley lake was the toughest by far but it was into a stiff head wind. I also found Priest Leaps north side (couple of months ago) tougher than the south but again a stiff cross/head wind. Both barley and priests N. are relentless and barley lake has some savage sections. Priests south is all up and down. So depends on weather and your own personal preferences. Mt leinster mast similar to Priests N except tougher.

This bastard gets my vote for toughest hill in Dublin

    https://www.strava.com/segments/1329636

Same distance and average gradient as 3 rock but the first k is 10+% on a gravelly road.

Yeah thats a bastard alright! Did it a few years ago on a mountain bike and have been putting off doing it again on the road bike, must bite the bullet soon though!

I have only just added it but this a climb in Djouce that I used when prepping for MTB Worlds. Tough (especially if wet or windy).

    https://app.strava.com/segments/9038545?filter=overall

I only just created it so strava has not found other riders - it so only me on the leaderboard (for now)

How would this one rank? Don't think I've done it to create on Strava. 2.6km, 216m gain on Google Maps.

That's 'the wall' I think? Plus the last bit of the Old Long Hill. Toughie alright.

Yep, that's the one, but I can't remember ever combining full wall plus Long Hill on a cycle so I can't create it.

Did it twice I think. Stopped for little breaks at the crossroads, purely for safety reasons...

If you're on Strava then maybe you can create a segment for it?

One for Mountain bikers to try

    Ballyhouras (Lacka & Seefin combined)

Lacka can be ridden on road bike.
    Seefin mountain bike only

    2.9km 11%Av

    Couldn't include strava link.

With the gearing on a mountain bike 11% could be considered flat :D

Factor in weight and tyre resistance though and it pretty much evens out. A lot of mtb's are running a single ring on the front these days so climbing can be pretty tough.

it's really surface on seefin more than gradient. There is not too many that can get up that without un-clipping.

Lacka (Lacha) is where we ran the Munster hill climbing championships last year, same route this year.

Mount Leinster from the gates the whole way up to mast,
    2.5km long,
    Elevation gain 345 mtr,
Average gradient 13% (hits over 20% on numerous ramps),
Its brutal as its more or less a straight road up that seems to go on forever with just 2 bends within last 200 mtr.
