Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

Im no tax expert but was just having a quick look at my payslips and noticed that USC is being levied at 7% flat rate of my gross income for the last 2 years which is as long as Im with my current employer for.

My income is circa 30k so I thought the thresholds would used and that 7% would only be levied on the balance.

Can anyone point my in the right direction before I get onto payroll/ Revenue?

Im due to finish working here in the next month or two so want to get things sorted.

    Thanks.

ask your payroll person is that the correct rate that Revenue has advised them to use for you. If yes, ring Revenue and query why that rate is being used for you. If its an error, you will get a refund.

7% is the top rate used in emergency tax situations. Does your PAYE look normal? As stated already, check with your payroll for this year. Check with Revenue for prior years.

Thanks. Yep PAYE all looks fine so only USC thats off. I just wasnt sure if there was some obvious reason why it would be at a flat rate of 7% before I get onto payroll or Revenue.

The reason is that either Revenue issued your employer none of the lower rate bands for USC in error, or whoever does the payroll failed to input the correct lower rate bands in your file in the payroll package... You'll only know by asking.

I gave Revenue a call a d theyre going to do a P21 balancing statement for me for the past few years. They have correct rates for me so looks to be a payroll error in their opinion so hopefully it will get sorted.

Nervous though incase I end up owing them money as I dont have any to spare!

Just received a reply from Revenue. Receiving a refund of over 1700e as I have been overpaying USC for over 2 years! Well worth doing in my case but then again I changed jobs in 2012 and in 2011 and 2012 was working different hours every week so my wages were different each week.

good to hear resolutions to people's problems. nice to get it all back and hopefully you'll know your correct rates for future.

pity there's so many people though who just haven't a club.
