The feedback from the 3rd public consultation is currently being assessed and it is envisaged that the preferred route corridor will be finalised in the 1st quarter of 2010.

No raised bogs will be interfered with I'll wager :D

Is there any signs of this going ahead in the next year

Will there be a bypass for the people traveling to Mayo?

Pretty sure the whole project has been long fingered.

There is a smaller project planned for Longford town, an N5 bypass going from the Newtownforbes side of the N4 bypass to the existing N5 outside the town, that AFAIK is going ahead.

    Absolutely no chance whatsoever.

    Unlikely in the next 5.

According to the Westmeath National Roads Design Office, due to cutbacks, detailed designs of this project have been suspended.

Looks like route selection has been completed. The only thing stopping it from progressing is funding but apart from a vague commitment by the government to complete the inter urbans I wouldn't hold your breath for anything for a while.

Have these people never heard of a ruler? That preferred route is nowhere near straight enough.

Ten. Although it looks great on a piece of paper (or computer screen), this project won't happen tho' for a loooong time as we all know. With the government now spending more than 20 billion a year than it gets in - to have projects like this done we will have to cut public sector pay by 50% social welfare by the same and cut PS pensions as well to make this even remotely affordable.

There will be very limited spending now on Public infrastructure projects in the next ten to 20 years.

Yes There will be a little link road which will take the mayo traffic directly from the N4 and avoid the town. This will be built separately and there are supposedly in the process of procuring a contractor for this

All curves would be within NRA DMRB Standard so nothing wrong with it.

That doesn't magicly make it ok to build a road that's more winding than the one it replaces.

Arrra winding at 75 miles an hour is not real winding

    Anymore talk of this??

    It's been a while like!!

Personally I can't see this being a priority. It's not one of the worst roads as it stands......

Improves access to Endaland though - that is definitely a factor to be considered!

Agreed...N4 through Roscommon is much worse at present.

Don't like this road at all myself. Too many junctions and slow moving traffic. Sadly, it's claimed another 4 lives this morning, awful news. RIP

    A terrible tragedy. Absolutely sickening.

Have there been previous fatalities on this road?

EDIT: the RSA's road collision map appears to show four fatalities 2005-2012.
