    As the title, do you think we need more guards recruited ASAP? This shooting business is getting worse and worse... Crazy $hit going on!

    I don't think extra Gardai will make a lot of difference when it comes to these crimes.

    We have the right numbers, but the wrong shift pattern - same number of Gards on duty in Pearse Stret at 10 a.m. on Monday as 1 a.m on Sat. Get Gards out of the station too, let civilians fill forms etc.

    Agree that they should give better training to fight the slumlords. But they should also be givin proper resources.

    Yep,but we can't afford any more of them.

    That's why various stations are being closed either fully or after 10pm,why there's mutterings of the Traffic Corps being disbanded,and why the Garda helicopters flying time is being cut in half.

    More Gardi would be good but it would be just as good if a lot of their resources was not already stripped from them, was restored.

    Why didn't the government tax the higher earners to pump it back into society and recruit more emergency services... This country is going down the swanny!

    I was referring to a thread I read similar to this one where people jumped all over the OP for using the word "Guards".

    I agree that civilians should be doing the admin work so that gardai can spend more time on the streets.

    What we need is fewer laws. Then we wouldn't need so many Guards to enforce them and we'd have more freedom to boot.
