I've given up drinking on my own.
    Only when socialising.

Gave it up for Lent once upon a time.

U.C.C. have invented a low alcohol producing yeast that keeps the great taste of beer but with much less alcohol in it. Already big breweries are interested in it.

Who knows with enough tweaking and perfecting the strain of yeast in time even devout muslims might be able to drink a beer that tastes like a beer but with no alcohol.

Never felt I needed to. Was never a big drinker.

Absolutely HATE hangovers and the feeling of wasting a day the next day.

In the last year I've noticed an uncanny link between having a few drinks (enough to be moderately drunk) and a very low mood about 24-48 hours later.

Love a beer with some spicy food though and a G&T or something fancy from time to time.

Since alcohol is a mood altering depressant drug, that's not really surprising. However, as this is just a recent thing for you, I'd get it checked out in case there's another reason that attributes to it?

I gave up to save money to buy a house. I didnt drink for 2 years. So when i was buying my house i had to get life insurance. the "Non Drinker" was a big red flag. Took a week to sort out. I dont consider myself a non drinker but i just dont drink.

Generally if I'm staying in I won't drink, although I'll sometimes have a glass of wine in the house if herself is having one. Other than that it's just when I'm in the pub which is one night every second weekend on average.

Drank far too much in my late teens/early 20's, but I grew out of it. Wasn't an alco, just a bit too fond of it at the time. I still love a good pint of a nice glass of white wine, but I find the hangovers increasingly difficult to deal with, and can't be bothered losing a day (or two) to a severe hangover.

I think it comes as you get older.
A few years ago I would just be hungover and be grand.
Now I start getting major anxiety and become a walking zombie. I just can't deal with people during the withdrawal. The weird thing is that's if I drink on Friday it won't be till Sunday I feel like ****, unless of course I drink on the Saturday.
I think I'll have to take a few months off soon though. Kind of get pain and everything now after a heavy session. Its damn hard to give up though when so many social occasions involve it. Most people I know will be getting fairly drunk on nights out and going out sober is not an option. Tried it a few times and I'm bored ****less listening to people by 1AM. Sometimes I wish alcohol was illegal in this country. Life would be better if it just never existed.

    Why?
Because they thought you were an ex-alco?

I gave it up for a year.
Bought a new computer with the savings and paid off some loans.
Worked out really well. Don't feel the need to drink much since, either.
