Fibre broadband in Letterkenny

    Hi,

    Does anyone know what the fibre broadband is like in Letterkenny at the moment? How does it compare to the standard broadband? Is it consistently at a high speed and is it only eircom who provide it?

    Currently on Smart 24mb (although never get 24mb). It is decent and good enough and all I am just weighing up whether fibre would be worth it for a few extra euro? ie for streaming in HD which can buffer on the odd occasion at present.

    I am am digiwebs 75mb fiber line, getting speeds on average around 66mbps. Smart are a sister company so moving should be easy enough but (long story short) just be sure that they cancel your original 24mb connection.

    Apart from that you Eircom are in the area as well as Sky.

    Speed mainly depends on how far away you are from the boxes so where would the nearest upgraded slimmer green telecom box be to you. The closer it is the quicker it will be. There is a map of all the locations must try and find it.

    Just be warned it will only go as quick as the lines allow it, Beinn Aoibhen has a box right outside the estate but the way they are set up in there means that there is a huge drop off in speed.

    Vodafone are on the go as well. We get 50mb with them.

    Thanks for the feedback. I'm in Ashfield and looks like there is one outside the estate so think I will look into getting it. Current 24mb package I'm rarely getting 10 so I think for a few extra euro I should still get a vast improvement I'd hope.

    ask them to do a speed test on the line when you ring them up, they'll be able to tell you what you should be getting if you upgrade. It'll never be the full speed that say in ads but they'll be able to give you more details

    66Mbps is pretty impressive, it is better than what I get on UPC.

    I'm getting 7mb on Eircom's fibre, but live right on the edge of where they can provide it outside Letterkenny. I had download speeds of 0.3mb before fibre so I'm actually pretty happy with that.

    I have no idea what I'd do with 66mb!

    Eircom turned on "Vectoring" over the past few weeks. This is my connection as of today;

    I particularly like the ping, even only to dublin 12ms is pretty good.
