Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My 03 new shape land cruiser lacks power (d4d engine
Would anyone have a theory why this is, it is fine driving on normal roads and can build to a gradual normal speed, but suffers on an incline in the road or overtaking
    Turbo gone?

Any smoke? If not, then it's unlikely the turbo. Possibly a fuel leak or air. It's ok for oil etc? Any lights on dash?

Mass air flow sensor gone? Turbo wastegate stuck open?

no real smoke to cause concern.

Have a good poke around and clean of basic engine parts. Mine got a bit sluggish passing 200k on the clock. Fuel & Air filter, clean the throttle body and egr.. Not a big job to do on these. Back to its torquey self after this for me anyway. Often it's just in need of a good service.

    I've driven the Landcruiser.

Everybody swears they have great power, I was disappointed - coming from Land Rovers I found them to be extremely underpowered.

I can only assume you've driven one with the older 1kz engine. The D4D unit is definitely not underpowered. Whatever about extremely.. there's only 20hp in the difference between it and the LR V6 diesel.

As Bob said clean the EGR , also make sure the hose from the MAF to the manifold is in good condition with no holes.

    Those engines have had issues

Any oil leakage around engine anywhere. Could of been cleaned for sale? But would be visible now after a bitta driving? Sign of injectors clogged which could lead to engine carbon build up, clogging and engine failure.

Other thought: was she chipped? And chip removed? People did this for more power and better mpg. Older ones changed were basically resisters, could of damaged computer and messed up settings?

Turbo going would be fairly obvious, be a good bitta smoke.

    Any odd noises?

Get a pajero. Great machines. Best of luck sorting that out though :)

Whats fuel delivery like? if the intank filter is blocked it affects fuel flow.
I'd start with new fuel filter and check and clean the assembly on top of the tank that has a filter in the base in the tank.
These can corrode where they leave the top of the tank.
    New airfilter as well.

There was a bit of oil out of the bottom of engine, will have to get it checked over properly. No odd noises. I also had a pajero before...never again lol
    Thanks for replies
