Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey All

Have a 2006 Opel Astra GTC, the battery light came on this morning and stays on. The car starts ok so i doubt its the battery.

Does anyone know could it be the alternator ?

    Cheers !

Alternator gone. Just pop in in to any garage, and ask to check alternator output , or if you know how to do it, you can do yourself with voltmeter, if iti less than 14 volts, then consider it broken, usually alternator coil brushes are worn, has to be replaced.

Thankfully it is still under warranty.

The light only came on today, how long should I be able to drive it for would you say as the garage can't take it till Monday ?

It could also be your auxiliary belt that broken so I wouldn't be driving it at all as if it is the belt then the water pump also isn't being driven so you will overheat the engine.

Even if its the alternator it hard to say how long it will run for, it depends on how much, if any, power the alternator is putting out and how good your battery is. If the alternator is putting out no power at all then you'd be lucky to get an hour maybe before the battery is dead.
