Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Rory Doody on Newstalk talks about mental health

    Interesting and emotional interview as Ivan Yates talks to Rory Doody.

    Rory talked about being so bad that he was happier in a mental hospital than the outside world. It also was mentioned that Bressie (musician) broke (or tried to break) his arm by punching it with his fist, so that he could get access to care!

    It seems like we, as a nation, are getting better when it comes to dealing with those who suffer with mental health issues. Obviously there's more to be done, but giving people like Rory a voice is good news.

    I have been affected by mental health issues, through family and friends:

    My sister almost killed herself, due to tinnitus.
    A friend did kill himself.
    My friend's younger brother (next door neighbour) killed himself.
    And a friend of mine used to cut himself, and is currently on medication.
    Some female friends of mine have expressed feelings of depression on Facebook.

    These are only the ones that I know about, so there has to be more. But looking at the list above, sometimes you only find out about someone's battles with depression when it's too late.


    I wonder, how many people who are not working, and labelled as 'lazy', suffer mental health issues? Life must be so simple for those who like to paint swathes of people with the one brush. Young men who are out of work aren't getting away with anything. It doesn't take rocket surgery to understand that a career with decent wages, beats the feelings of uselessness and the lack of spending power that comes with being on the dole.

    Rory Doody has a few videos on YouTube, where he's talking to Amnesty International Ireland's conference. I haven't watched them yet, but here's a couple of links to two of them:
