Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Help with Central heating control panel

    Can anyone help me understand what this control panel on the left does? It has an on/off switch and button for selecting 15mins to 2 hours. I assume its for some sort of boost for heating but it doesn't work when i press it. Maybe i need to do someone with the control panel on the right? I can't identify the brand because it has no name on it.

    It looks like a timer for an immersion heater.

    right so not a timer for the boiler? I was thinking it might have been a timer for the Central heating, as the control panel on the right already has a 1 hour boost function for hot water.

    The one on the right appears to be your controller for your central heating system (gas or oil). The one on the left is your timer for your immersion heater (electric). They are completely separate systems.

    If your water is already hot via the central heating system (maybe it is programmed to come on at a certain time each day), then the immersion is unlikely to work (as it has a built in thermostat). And of course there is a possibility that your immersion elemant is kaput.

    yeah I just felt the heater element head on the top of the tank, it seems it got hot when i switched on the timer on the left. I was hoping it was a timer for the central heating as the control panel on the right doesn't provide an option for hourly bursts of heat, only boosts hot water.

    Seems both you guys where correct.

    The immerison timer on the left has its uses in that it automatically re-sets when it 'times out' (aka 'fire and forget'). So you never have to sit at work and say to yourself 'did I remember to turn that fuc*ing immersion off ?'.........you know how Irish people are with their immersion, it's like giving a blank cheque to the ESB !!!!.
