Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just checked my photo online and think it fails the requirements, potentially in 2/3 ways. Will the photo cause my application to be unsuccessful or could it be resubmitted at the interview stage if selected?

The photo is basically EVERYTHING! if your photo is not 100% matched to the requirements ur app is disqualified and you will never be notified. Make sure it is 2inch by 2inch scaled propperley..600-600px when submitted and that it is still in high quallity focus with no background shadows.

The panic over mine now, I see a bit of a background shadow. I am hoping it is not considered too much of a shadow. I don't think it is any worse than some people who posted on here had so I am hopeful. Fingers crossed. Also the fact that it is such a long wait from applying to finding out at all kills me

    Site now says:

DV-2013 entrants should keep their confirmation number as it is possible that more entries may be selected on October 22, 2012 at noon (EDT).

So it looks like the date has been pushed back, if they are going to draw more.

Anyone have any luck with this?

When a parent is applying, do you need photos of the child(ren) too? Or if the parent is successful does that qualify the children too? Does the application ask for kids names, dob etc?

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭Ronchi

i just noticed u can see 1 of my ears more than the other in pic i wonder if that a problem

Yes, you need photos of everyone on the application. Yes, its asks for the details of everyone on the application.

I think its fine. No one is perfectly symmetrical. You could have an ear that sticks out a bit more on one side ;)

I wouldnt look at that pic and think it was taken too much to the side.

I remember them in the 80s. If everyone got one of those lottery visas that applied the entire country would have left.

My same ear sticks out a bit more, really like, not just in the photo!

Yeah I noticed that too. If the rules are THAT stringent then I honestly dont know how anyones application gets through.

Hi All, going to apply tonight (just got my photo done)..

Do you need to include a photo of your spouse as well then? Or just yourself...

    .
**sorry, just noticed there that you do:
It is very important that you submit all required photographs. Your entry will be disqualified if you do not submit all the required photographs. Recent photographs of the following people must be submitted electronically with the E-DV entry form:
     You
     Your spouse

Just applied there this morning - pretty easy. Got my photo taken in that photo shop on Grafton Street yesterday and got the image put on a disc for 20E - It is probably worth it to avoid worrying about if it is valid.

    Good luck to all applying

    From Wikipedia:

Winning chances per year, per legitimate entry, DV-2012

    Europe: 1.63%

So, if my maths are correct, it's about a 1/60 chance for Europeans?

There's a photo validator on the official site, not sure why anyone would want to send photos to a third party?

Application submitted, and now we wait. Fingers crossed!

Photo validator only makes sure it is 600x600 and does not point out all the other requirements

I already submitted my application with the photo.

Am I too late to get it checked out for a 3rd party?

If not, who do I get it checked by?

    Thanks in advance!

Anyone else having huge problems logging onto the site? I've been trying for the last three days and cant get it to load up, probably the huge amount of traffic! This is the correct site, isnt it? www.dvlottery.state.gov

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,921 ✭✭✭✭hdowney

I would say it is down to tomorrow being the deadline. Like when it opened there was a high volume of traffic and the site crashed, now all the latecomers have copped that they need to do it now or miss out so they are flooding the site. (my tuppence!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 680 ✭✭✭Salmon

Your're probably right! Trying for the last few days thou, its frustrating. I applied last year and for some reason thought it was december that the process was opened. Probably gonna be too late for this year im afraid! Ah well.

Someone posted a site that auto cropped the photo to 600x600 back in page 38-39 i think. Best to get a pro to resize it to a memory stick for you though

I was wondering if you get picked in may but ur currently on holiday in america. Are u able to get your medical, garda vetting checks done there thru embassy or will you have to return to ireland

    Hi everyone,

I've spent the last few days reading through all the pages about this topic. I wanted to enter this lottery this year but was too busy at work to get the photo done on time. I have a question regarding the photo- Is there an authentic website to check all conditions the photo must meet? so you don't have to worry about shadows etc . Some people have said that the government site only checks dimensions of the photo. I would like to enter it next year but have the correct photo done for it. Thanks for any answers.

They're available here on page 3 from the official DV Lottery section for US Embassy in Dublin.

    Hi folks
    I have a interview in Feb 2013.

I am currently in long term permanent employment, but don’t have the savings required.
I can show that I have had an income for a long period of time and have been paying a mortgage for the last 9 years.
Will there be an issue with this

If successful, I don’t plan on using the green card straight away, but do plan on travelling to the US to activate it if successful after the interview. I will need to come back to Ireland and sort out personal requirements
Will it be a problem for when I return to Ireland and go back again when required within the 12 month window?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,626 ✭✭✭rockonollie

Not sure about the financial requirements, but my understanding of actually being present in the US.....you'll need to enter the US with the visa within 6 months of receiving it, but if you leave again, you can't be out of the US for more than 6 months.

    I am open to correction.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29 minaeire

I thought a green card was valid for 12 months if you left the US. I you plan on leaving for > 12 months you have to fill out some form.
    I could be wrong

    After further research....you're correct.

Here's a helpfull page on an immigration attorney's page with info on maintaining your Green Card Residency when leaving the US
