I recently got a nifty little android TV dongle (this model) but when I try to connect up an external usb hard drive that has movies and music on it, I get a "Media List Request Failure" message.

I tried one hard drive that is NTFS and one that is FAT and got the same responses from both. Can anyone give me some advice?

Can you try installing ES file explorer to see if you can access files?

I tried this to no avail, sadly.

Do you have to manually mount or format the drives first?

I've a hdmi tv stick. To connect an external drive I have to use a powered hub

That's a great idea. I tried it and still no luck.

I'm just going to give up and install xbmc. Thanks for the help folks.
