Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone remember Mark Speight from SMart, the art show on BBC? I remember it well, personally he used to really annoy me.

Anyway, after the death of his fiancee from coke and hot water, he has been found dead after going missing for a week, probably due to suicide.

    Interesting.

Used to love that smart show especially the bit where they did the massive picture out of bits and bobs.

Yeah, you said it "a bloke". Some obscure, barely famous ant.

    As a discussion topic...BORING.

Wasn't that Neil Buchanan on Art Attack or did smArt do the same thing?

Hmm, maybe it was art attack. Whoever did it, it was it was great.

Yeah Art Attack was where they done some big mental drawing or whatever you'd call it at the end. The rest of the show was a bit crap though.

Don't have a clue what SMart was.

Wasn't he a suspect for a while when his fiance kicked it?

As is somewhat normal with these things. He was cleared though.

Explain to me why "ya scaldy pr1ck" isn't personal abuse? And questioning a moderator's decision on-thread is not on - take it to Feedback, Helpdesk or PM.
Think the banning is too long? charlie mchugh has been on Boards nearly two and a half years - long enough to know the rules regarding personal abuse.

I think this is more suited to Celebrity & Showbiz. He may not have been a major celebrity but he was in the public eye.

The show I remember him for was "The Toon Room" on TCC back in the mid 90s. He had this desk lamp that kept hitting him with cartoon pans and anvils.

I see on Wikipedia the body hasn't been formally identified as his yet. Both he and his fiancée - what a horrific tragedy.

He was cleared of any charges regarding the death of his finacee.

But hanged himself according to this

    .

In fairness Dudess I think people get annoyed by comments above (Rb & Bravetarr82) and soemtimes say something they shouldn't. I mean, what is the point in posting 'Interestingly boring' ? The poster was obviously interested enough to post ffs. Just stay away from a thread if you've no interest....

Agreed 100%. But personal abuse, no matter how justified, can't be allowed go on. If it was, imagine how horrible things would get!

I remember him on TCC and Smart, he was really good.
I didn't know about his fianceé or him missing until I hit on skynews today.
The poor family, first the fianceé and now him, my heart goes out to them

Why were my posts directing the moaners to feedback deleted?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,100 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

They weren't deleted they were moved to feedback along with other posts because I was trying to keep all the off-topic stuff out of the thread. It appears it didn't work though.

It is. But does it really matter?

I didnt bring to Feedback because.....well.....I didnt care enough.

If personal abuse was allowed, can you imagine the full-on bullying that would occur here? It can't be allowed under any circumstances - even if it's justified.

Terrible situation, very sad, and for those with the insensitive comments I second what the person who got banned said.

Was it on here that I read Neil Buchannen (or however you spell his name) had died as well. If thats the case, two of the greatest kids art show presenters from the 90's are gone.

And he was once in a band called Marseille. Ace.

Glad this was moved to Celeb so I could explain.

I was wrong to say what I said, and the mods were right to issue a ban, but I was just insensed that someone could show such disrespect for another person's death, particularly in light of the surrounding circumstances.

I understand that most people wouldn't be interested in the story as people die everyday, but as another poster pointed out, bravestar was interested enough to post. Would you say such comments in real life. No. You would keep stum and move on, or pay your respects, end of. You wouldn't pop your head into the deceased's funeral and say 'sh1t happens'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,124 ✭✭✭homah_7ft

This isn't his funeral though and people are entitled to their opinions. I too was somewhat taken aback by the more flippant comments but I don't think it's worthy of biting back.

They posted crap, better to ignore it in future and not get drawn on it. You show you've learned that with this post anyway. Not really the same as his funeral either unless the funeral is on boards.ie :)

I never heard of this guy before today so it makes little difference to me.

The funeral analogy was weak, but it was all I could think of. But it just struck me as someone having a pop for the sake it, where nothing warranted it.

I can't believe some of the comments that I have read here. Some people are so insensitive.

I was following this story, such a tragic outcome. Obviously Mark felt he couldn't carry on without Natasha. Apparently he blamed himself for her death because he was the one who introduced her to drugs.

    Sad, sad news.

I was sad to hear about his tbh. Mrs. 6th had been giving me the news as it unfolded. I grew up on childrens art shows and went on to study art. My daughter loves art at the age of 3 and Smartinies is watched in my house now and then - great kids show.

For people who are at an age were they wouldnt watch his show or have kids who watch it, think about how it would be if it was Tony Hart? Obviously he is an absolute legend but I'm sure young kidss today enjoyed Mark Speight.
