Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

...the arsehole of the printed word?

Every Sunday you get a magazine filled with Irish models, Calum Best, Peter Stringfellow, Geard Keane and Lisa Murphy, Michael Flatfoot, the "shocking" truth of leaving cert students abroad. etc etc. Complete and utter bollox.

Why is it the first thing I read when I get the Indo?

Wait, what were you expecting from the Indo? A tabloid in broadsheet clothing.

My parents moan about it but are unable to stop themselves from buying it, so deeply ingrained in them is the habit. I think that's often the case with the SIndo.

It's kinda like the god-awful parish newsletter that is Cork's Evening Echo - nearly everyone buys/reads it but so many of those very people whinge about it. Presume it's the same for the Hedald.

It can have great recipes. Otherwise it's full of rubbish, but like OP it's the first thing I read when I buy the Sunday Indo. I can't explain it either.

Because once you've read those oh so hilarious captions about the "Irish Models" you can then throw the whole thing out, safe in the knowledge that it only gets worse and your not going to miss out on anything that might be considered news or journalism.

According to the same paper the going rate for a BJ in UCD is a cigarette.

'First you suck on this, then you suck on this'

They will print anything to sell papers.

I can imagine a bunch of people buying 20 Johnnie Blue and heading out to campus.

Could be worse....you could get the Sunday World....about 100 pages with some fat blonde things ugly face splashed across 60 percent of them.

I would've reserved that title for the Irish Daily Mail, but having seen the Indo magazine recently I'd almost think of giving them both that dubious honour.

Front page of the Sindo sports.

Dion Fanning reckons Georgia scored an "injury-time winner"

More journalistic integrity from Ireland's best read.

Yeah, but the difference is that the Sunday World knows it's trash. The SIndo tries to masquerade itself as a 'quality' newspaper

That's an acceptable exchange rate, given present economic conditions

I am fully convinced that the Life supplement is sponsored by Assets.

"In this week's LIFE, Barry Egan banging on about some Irish Models. Again."

I'm not so hard on Barry E, since I saw him in a coffee shop one morning. It must be torture for the lad hanging out with a load of models when you're as ugly as he is.

    this is what bothers me.

do you lot not feel filthy knowing your furthering o'connors careeer ?

even back when i bought the SINDO i never even glanced at this crap. FFS if the actual paper can have nonsense by young wan journos from the sticks talking about how rough life is on grafton street in high heels (im not fcuking kidding! they actually spent broadsheet PAGE on that ! ) then i dread to think what brain sucking idiocy is in the supplement.

whole thing mostly seems to be an exercise in getting pseudo posh totty to get their kit off. ive got internet access if i want to see that!

Sindo = Hooker in a dinner dress.

Which leads to my next question; if you all (rightly) rate the sindo as the septic tank of journalism that it is, what paper would you buy?

I'm of the opinion that there is a dearth in quality Sunday newspapers in this country.

Life magazine is absolutely disgusting and should be on the top shelf of the newstands as most of the pictures are soft porn. I remember once the headline on the front cover was 'How Tyra banks has turned into a fat cow'.

Triona McCarthy literally has her cleavage out in EVERY single column she does for the Life. Every week I check just to make sure her tits are still there, going strong.

She comes out with great beauty tips like "brush your lips with a toothbrush to get rid of dry skin", which has been printed in every teenage or beauty magazine since toothbrushes were invented. She also occasionally breaks out a 'witty' blonde joke, or dirty limerick loosely based around shampoo.

The Life magazine is just rubbish.

I only ever get the Observer myself, and read any Irish-interest stuff on the Irish Times website. FFS, the Sindo is absolute tosh. So sensationalist. My parents buy it but never seem to read it. It seems to be bought by some silent majority, a lot of the time because they've always bought it. It's force of habit.

The 'Life' Magazine I glanced at had your one Caroline Horahan on the cover, looking like a dominatrix or something. Inside were articles about...oh I don't even want to start.

It's an awful paper. For good supplements, recipes, book/film/music reviews and that, check out the Observer. Okay, it's an English paper, with very little coverage of Irish events, but I just get that online anyway. The Sindo prints very little factual, or relevant content anyway.

And they don't give full weekly listings either, what's up with that?

They give Sunday's, then a sort of "round up" of the rest of the week.

    Awful.
