Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Moving to Hong Kong....

    Moving over on August 17th to start work in a Kindergarten. Anyone on boards lived out there?

    Will be set up with the school at an apartment in Kowloon. I don't really know anything about the city.....how bad is the pollution, really? And what's it like for running in? Public spaces, air quality, humidity, etc

    Great city, very safe. The pollution/air quality does get very bad at times when the weather conditions are such that the pollution from Southern China blows in and lingers around. Plenty of places for running in. The humidity ? - It's really bad in summer - The summer weather has been accurately described as "humidity so high it feels like you could part it like curtains" ! .:) Great nightlife - Hope you're going to be well paid though - You'll need it for a night out in Wanchai ! .:D

    Great location for travelling to Japan, The Philippines, Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul and all the other delights of South East Asia.

    Not incredibly well paid, but hopefully enough to live on (I don't actually drink, so that'll help!). Salary is HK$14,000 a month but the apartment is covered, it's actually one of these; http://www.horizonhotels.com.hk/harbourview-horizon-en.html

    Kind of figured about the humidity. Does it let up much in the evenings? In an ideal world, I'd be able to get up at 6am to go for a run before work. I just know I won't actually do that, so suppose I could go for some evening runs if it wasn't too bad. Definitely plan on signing up for the HK Marathon at the end of January.

    Looking forward to traveling for sure. Bhutan top of my list, though I do know it's pricey.

    The accommodation looks really good - Nice central location too. Public transport in HK is very good . The MTR will get you most places you want to go (get yourself an Octopus card (buy at any MTR station) fairly soon after you arrive. Taxis are reasonable as well. If your accommodation is provided and you don't drink that will save you a fortune - Accommodation and socialising are the major expenses in Hong Kong. Don't know how you'll fit in with the Irish expat community if you don't drink though ! :) (only joking).

    The humidity doesn't ease up much in the evenings. You'll get used to it - The first ten years are the worst... ! It's a great city, great atmosphere. Lucky you - You'll have a great time.

    Bhutan wouldn't be on the top of my list of places to visit, but each to his/her own. Loads of great places to visit in Hong Kong itself / Southern China and also within a short flight from Hong Kong. Your salary is very low for an expat in Hong Kong (even taking into account that accommodation is provided) but with not drinking you should be still be able to have a reasonable lifestyle and a great adventure.
