    Check out the inside http://www.hillcottage.ie/index.php

A bit over the top for my taste. If I ever gave my parents a house like this they would be afraid they would break something.:D
No expense was spared and no relevant paint shade left untested by the family who built this luxurious, marble- floored home for their parents. Now it’s for sale for €1.75 million
IF DONATELLA VERSACE ever wants a bolthole in Ireland she need look no further than Hill Cottage outside Straffan, Co Kildare.
The grey field-stone front gives the impression of a modest enough bungalow – one that she might drive by without a second glance – but inside there’s more than 585sq m (6,296sq ft) of mesmerising opulence spanning three levels with acres of marble floors, lashings of antique gilt and a surfeit of chandeliers – there’s even one in the little powder room.
While it’s relatively restrained by usual Versace standards, there’s more than a passing resemblance to the interiors on versacehome.com (click on Interior Design), from the wall panelling in every room to the lavishly set dinner table and the positioning of the massive cream leather sofas .........
Damn I miss the Celtic Tiger.......another decade and we would all have been living in houses like this.;)

That's a class house alright. Cheap (relatively speaking) too.

    No crying chair though. :(

And then some people would have spent the next 40 years pissing and moaning about their mortgage repayments.

    Garishly opulent.

It's like Marie-Antoinette and Robbie Savage designed their dream home.

    Less is more etc.

Everything white while looks good, is serious job to maintain and keep clean looking.
It would be a full-time job just looking after the place.

Current owner is on HRT and has a Barbie penchant. Is obviously overweight and spends her weekends in Dublin night clubs.

Who lives in a house like this? Not me anyway.

The building itself is lovely but the interior is rancid

With a place like that there's always some bother...you'd need servants ...security....and people to make it feel lived in...With that sot of money i'd move to a type of hotel where the management do everything for you.Everything brings bother bother bother..Wealthy people make an awful fuss over the tiniest of detail...and Marble is very cold looking too.

Donatella Versace coincidentally enough, is probably the opposite, she being rancid on the outside.

With all the inside white, any speck of dirt will be seen a mile away. It would be impossible to keep clean, even for the hired help..

Hideous... money can't buy taste unfortunately. You'd need an army of cleaners in every day... all that glass, those mouldings, every item in it would need dusting every single day. Life is too short.

    I hate gilt anyway.

Thought it was interesting that the family built it for their parents.Freud would have a field day.

Hill Cottage?! By what stretch of the imagination is that beast of a place a cottage?!

This is a cottage. I don't know what the feck that place is. Suppose "Hill McMansion" doesn't have the same ring to it...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,030 ✭✭✭✭Chuck Stone

It looks like a bit like an old school house on the outside and it's trying to be like a french palace on the inside.

Doesn't work for me and a cottage it certainly is not.
