Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What can kill a wood pigeon

Went for a walk in a forest yesterday evening, just after 7:30. Stopped off at a stream so the 2 boys could throw stones and mess about. Was there about 30 seconds when a wood pigeon dropped vertically out of the sky, dead!

There was no sound of gun shot, we are in the middle of a forest that would hinder killing it with a gun and it just dropped out of the sky!

It landed about 2 metres away from us in the water. I had a nose at it and could not see any sign of damage to it.

Would a Buzzard be capable of killing one? The forest is in Newtownmountkennedy in Wicklow, which has had vists from a Buzzard family group.

I was waiting to hear the banjo playing in the distance after this happened :D

    When everyone's finished making gags...

Yes, Buzzards certainly do take Wood Pigeons.

It could have been shot a good distance away and flown to your location before succumbing to its wounds. There is a lot of pigeon shooting this time of the year as the birds congregate over fresh stubble to feed on spilt cereal crops.
