Firefox search comes up on local google site

Can anybody tell me how to make the google search in firefox toolbar show english results instead of from the local google (in my case google.nl)?

Go to http://www.google.com/preferences

Select Engels in the first section, a drop-down list

Scroll to bottom and click Voorkeuren opslaan

Your preferences will be saved as a cookie and Firefox search will use it.

still didnt work thanks though
even if i type google.com into the address bar google.nl still comes up by default
