Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

reasonably priced Wedding Cake recommendations?

    Hi

    Getting married in Dublin on August 28th and we're looking for a simple cake, nothing fancy as we have a cool topper that will make the cake look cool.

    We are having 60 sitting and probably another 40 to the afters so we would only need a 2 tier cake to serve as small slices in the evening

    So far we went in to Mannings and found their prices great but were a bit put off by the fact that they didn't even sit down with us to go through what we wanted, they just spoke to us over the counter and for our wedding day we kind of expect a bit more then that

    Budget is €250 and the cake from mannings would cost €225 plus just €10 for delivery, anybody have any other suggestions?

    Why not just go and buy lots of cakes in marks and sparks or someplace like that. For that money you will get a lot of cake..

    You don't have to getting a wedding cake unless ye really want to, and even at that ye could go get a nice fruit cake or whatever cake ye like and decorate it yerselfs..

    I actually got recommended treats by pri and was so excited when I saw their Facebook page but they are booked out on my wedding day so was really disappointed 😕

    Aw that's a shame. Her stuff looks amazing and we did a tasting with her - absolutely fabulous. She made a cherry compote - took me right back to my childhood!

    Ah stop I know her cakes look fab and are very reasonably priced... not to be unfortunately

    Marks and Spencers do do wedding cake tiers that assemble into a wedding cake. If you're looking for something plain, they might do the job, though I've heard mixed reports on the taste. Basically tiers of fruit cake iced white, add your own ribbon, topper and pillars and you have a wedding cake.

    If you have someone coming from up North, they do more complicated stuff to order too. Their website shows it.

    Our cake came from www.creativecakes.ie

    Michael sat down with us for the design and we got to taste cake samples in lots of flavours. We got a fairly plain three tiers for about a third more than your budget, so it's probably worth asking for a rough estimate.

    Lots of people complimented both our cake and the taste.

    Yeah we got a quote of €280 plus €35 for delivery from Michael as a starting price for their 2 tier cakes. Still keeping him in mind but want to see if we can get something cheaper before we commit

    Those cakes look amazing! Bit on the pricey side tho, for sure. Was just having a look there and their "Novelty Cakes" are a whole lot cheaper and could be suitable if you could convince him to change "happy birthday" to "happy wedding day"- this one for instance is €250-€350 (sorry if the picture is huge) :P

    Yeah you see it really makes you wonder doesn't it?! just because it is for a wedding it is more expensive? or maybe i'm missing something? i'm sure they put more work in to wedding cakes but just looks from the outside like very differing prices

    Yeah like I think that one would make a lovely wedding cake, and doesn't look to be any less elaborate than some of the wedding ones that start at €500! The mind boggles :o

    The price we were charged was roughly in line with that price. Tbh I can't remember how much exactly we paid, but I think it was E360, whether that included delivery or not I can't remember. Similarly johnny's price of E280 for a two tier cake isn't far out of line with E250 - 350 for that three tier.

    The prices under the wedding cakes on the website seem far higher. Some of those I can see where the intricate workmanship (i.e. time) is required, but not all of the ones over E500. The toppers can also add quite a bit to the price of the wedding cakes, though again, not all of the expensive less-intricate ones have those either.

    Thats why we are looking for something simple actually because we already have a topper sorted so its going to be the wow factor we need

    Not sure where your based but we got a fab cake in sligo/mayo area for 200. It had an impressive edible topper custom made to look like myself and now husband but without that it would have been 150. Lady was an absolute pleasure to deal with, cake was two tiers and tasted fab. Can pm details if location suits.

    There is no doubt his cakes are fab! But well out of our price range I'm afraid. We have a budget of €250 and even his basic looking cakes are over the €300 mark

    Hi, my sister-in-law makes absolutely fabulous cakes and makes incredible decorations from icing. She is really talented & based in Dublin.

    Link here to a cake she did for a wedding in Clonabreaney Hse, she probably has many other photos but I dont think she is on FB etc.

    I was having 50 to my wedding and we got a variety of cakes, traybakes and cookies from Camerino Bakery on Capel Street. Cost about 110 and fed us all the wedding night and the second night. Their carrot cake is amazing so is their raspberry and lemon tray bake! We just brought them down from Dublin the night before the wedding and it was all perfect. They were also super to deal with.

    In Ireland they sell fruit cakes in various sizes with plain white icing. Buy three or four in different sizes, add pillars, ribbon and your topper and you'll have a very reasonably priced wedding cake. Buy the smallest size to taste.

    Alternatively they do sell designed wedding cakes with different flavours up north so if you have a guest coming from there you could order and ask them to bring it down.

    My best friend had a three tiered cake from M&S. She got it in the North and had three different flavours-lemon, chocolate and vanilla. The hotel put it together for her using some lovely ivory ribbon and some flowers the same colour as her bouquet, it was lovely and nobody would have guessed it wasn't a 'professional' cake. I can't comment myself on taste as I didn't have any due to some food allergies. I have ordered my own wedding cake for next year from a specialist bakery in England and can't wait to be able to enjoy it myself.

    It would be worth getting quotes from a few places... The fact you have the topper and want something fairly simple will bring down the cost. The reason wedding cakes cost more than say a birthday cake would is because the consultation, tastings and delivery are usually factored in as well as the other usual costs. Check they are HSE registered and insured as well. Be wary of very cheap prices... I've seen and heard some horror stories (I am a caker, not Dublin though). Often 'you get what you pay for' is the case!

    Be wary of any prices TBH. We were at a wedding fair on Sunday and there were a couple of well know cake people there. We tasted a few samples. One had red velvet cake and a madeira with cream and they both tasted exactly the same!

    That's why you need a tasting session! Recommendations/reviews essential to check out. Some people out there definitely focus very heavily on the sugarcraft and very little on the actual content of the cake.

    Thank you very much for recommending camerino bakery! We went for them and they are absolutely lovely to deal with and the price of the wedding cake is extremely reasonable! Told them our budget and they looked after us

    A pleasure to deal with and I would recommend to anyone for sure
