    Mod's,
I hope it's okay for me to plug an event here. Lough Ree Lifeboat and RNLI are running an 87km Charity Cycle around Lough Ree on Sunday the 30th of March. This is a great opportunity to do a nice flat course in preparation for the sportive season. Registration at 11am and starting at 12 from The Bounty (Buccanneers RFC, Athlone). Music & finger food afterwards.

    Entry forms available from loughreernli@gmail.com.

€25 entry fee. Food stops and goodie bag included.

Is it possible to register and pay on the day?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,109 ✭✭✭Donie75

Yes, registration and payment on the day is fine.
Can you drop an email to the address below saying that you are taking part.

I'll post the route map next week.

What route is the cycle taking ?.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,109 ✭✭✭Donie75

    Hi Thomas,
Sorry for the delay in replying. The route of cycle is clockwise around Lough Ree. It will leave The Bounty (Buccaneers RFC) at 12 and head out the Roscommon Rd. It will turn right after Knockroghery and go through Kiltevan. It will then turn right on the Roscommon-Lansborough Rd and go thru Lansborough, Ballymahon, Glasson and back to The Bounty. There will be a food stop in the Parish Hall in Lansborough.
There will be finger food back in The Bounty along with live music and a few pints.

    Please spread the word...

Thanks Donie, hoping the weather holds.

Thanks to everyone who turned up for the Lap of Lough Ree for RNLI yesterday. We had a fantastic turnout with 157 riders taking to the 82km course. The weather was great with sun and a light breeze and only a few drops of rain in the last 15km.
We did two starts with a fast group rolling out 5 minutes before a slightly slower 24 to 28kmh group.
Our motorcycle marshals did a great job and the sandwiches and cakes in Lansborough were delicious and kept everyone fuelled up.

We also had two guys in Boards.ie jerseys.

We have decided to make this an annual event around the same time of year.

Hope to see you next year.

Yeah have to say that food stop was first class. Well done to the organisers, with great help as well there from the motorbike marshals en route... and of course well done to all the cooks, bakers and sandwich makers! Got a great feed :-)

Nice to have the gardai with us for a good part of the course.

Great pace with the front group the whole way round with everyone doing their bit at the front. Really enjoyed that - hope ye have it again next year...looking forward to them cajun chicken sandwiches already :-)

    Folks,
We are making this an annual event. This year we will go in the opposite direction, anti-clockwise. The date for your diary is Sunday 29th of March.
Plenty of time to get ready.

Will this cycle be happening again this year?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,109 ✭✭✭Donie75

Yes but no date set yet. I'm not directly involved this year although I might get dragged into it.
