    Just one or two.

    They must be small enough to get into the crawl space as well and lay out the rat traps. Their little hands would also be quite good at needlework, and children learn fast so teaching them shouldn't take up too much time.

    For heavy-duty tasks I'd rather have adult slaves, though they do cost a bit more.

    I don't have to have them. But IF I have them and that's BIG BIG BIG IF then I have to be in the right situation and be able to do it well with the right person. You are connected to that person for the rest of your life. And so are they. They deserve a good mom/dad.

    I don't have to have them at all to be happy. But if I do have them then I have to do it right to be happy.

    That's got at least an undertone of patronising-ness.

    You can very well know your own thoughts on this like that at that age. I've not wanted to have kids since around 18-20, and now, just before my 31st birthday, I still don't.

    I'd start with just the one. If I've managed to keep it alive and happy for the first 5 years of its' life I'd consider a second one.

    I would have said 'none' in my twenties too. I'll be 41 in a month. Answer is the same. None. Never. No thanks.

    Check back for the 'how old are you' poll from last year, btw. It was in AH. The average age of the demographic was older, iirc. I was surprised too. We're not immature. We just post that way!

    Yep, totally agree with this. I mentioned in a different thread a while ago that I was about 7 or 8 when I said I didn't want to be a mother. I'm almost 29 and my feelings haven't changed.

    I can beat that..

    as a toddler, I ran from other toddlers!
    I hated baby dolls.

    and I grew up squimish around young children&babies.

    I don't know when I first associated "baby" with "mother", but I know I never wanted to be around them. That hasnt changed. :o

    edit: as a teen, I found it extremely offensive that people would tell me "ah you just don't know". "all teens say that" "you'll change", like feck off, I think I know if I like kids or not!
    Now I just shake my head at people who genuinely can't fathom someone not wanting a child.

    I'm mid twenties. If I had the money I'd have one now. But I don't so it could be a while. I wouldn't bring a child into the world without full financial stability to pay for minders and all that stuff.
