    Hey Guys,

I'm a girl... so I'll try to explain as best as I can :)...

My little polo went in this morning and only failed on one tyre and emissions... (Surprise Surprise, I usually have cars that need bushings etc so was pleasantly surprised)

    Exhaust Emissions:

    High Idle
    Lambda:0.99
    C0: 0.45 vol%
    HC: 66ppm

So aparently it only failed on CO...

Limit Depend on year of Manufacture=
    CO above 0.30% = Fail.

Any idea what this could be? and how much its going to set me back???

    Thanks Guys for your help.

    Much Appreciated.

Was it fully serviced going into the test?

Normally for an aul VW failing on high CO
Stick in new spark plugs, air filters and do an oil service.
Get your ignition( for misfire) and crank case breather system checked.
Run a tank of petrol through with injector cleaner in it.
Then put dipetane in with the petrol for the test itself and drive it like it stolen to the test centre.

Should be about 150 for the full service and checking the few bits. Money you will get some of back with reduced fuel and oil consumption :).

.... on top of that what Interslice said, before next NCT , drive it like you stole it ... low gear, high revs, probably best to do is on motorway for good 20 min. (not to exceed speed limits tho) .

Ya drive the crap out of it! :D Local mechanic has been having the same problem lately with older petrols, had to bring a car for its NCT four times because it kept failing on the emissions. Tried everything but it eventually passed on the fifth attempt.

    Thanks guys...

The car is worth like 500bucks... So wanna do it as cheaply as possible! The advice I've recieced from a mechanic is "change plugs/air filter and put in some Redex".... Apparently you then drive it like your late for mass.... Ha

    Would everyone agree??

It seems like everyone is in agreement so you surely have a plan and a cheap enough plan too.

So I bought today from MicksGarage....

    Spark Plugs
    Oil Filter
    Air Filter
    Redex Injector cleaner
    Redex Petrol cleaner

    total price: €56

....I'm hoping this will get me passed without any additional work.

    Thanks.
