Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Rejoining a house need planning permission?

Looking an older semi detached house that has an extension on the back of it, but has been turned into a granny flat that is completely separate from the house and currently rented out. If we bought, we'd like to knock the wall between them and join it as one house. Is this something we would need planning for? The outside would not change.

Very strange that the unit was granted permission as a granny flat while totally separate to the main house.

I'd say it has permission for a shed and is currently being rented out without permission and would be against the planning regulations as being used for habitation.

Usually granny flats are granted on the basis that :

    1. they have a physical connection to the main dwelling
    2. that they are easily reworked back into the main dwelling once the granny flat use is no longer needed.

Hmmm, maybe I used the wrong word? Annex? Chalet? House behind the house, lol? I can't see the planning decision on the internet but it was originally built to become a b&b. (not sure how that would have worked anyhow) That didn't happen, and now it has tenants. but the property remains as one. The estate agent claims the planning is all in order regarding the extension.

Ask for the Grant of Planning Permission and the certificates of compliance with Planning and Building Regulations.
