Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone else remember the "moving wallpaper" from National Film Board of Canada ?

or even the Eastern European stuff

there was way worse than the stuff from Oz

The eastern european cartoons were awful, like watching picasso paintings having an epileptic fit.

The only canadian programmes I can remember offhand were The Littlest Hobo, Degrassi and the Beachcombers

The Littlest Hobo, and early Beachcombers were great.

The other stuff was just filler - possibly this stuff https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_Vignettes

Because they were cheap and they were good.

If you could get good from USA/UK but could get good and cheap from Oz and you were commissioning programmes in RTE in 1980s/1990s Ireland you'd probably go for the cheapest option.

A whole generation of Irish people have been raised watching Home and Away.

    Round the Twist was great
    . :D

I can even hear the theme song playing in my head. good program. I think i loved the fact it was so off the wall

Don't think hedgehogs are native to Australia?

Its a couple of years since I posted that comment I think.I've found out since that it was a British series.

The Tribe was so good. :)

There was also a show in the early 00's called Foreign Exchange. Robert Sheehan was in it.

anyone remember the name of the australian show set in a school from the early 90s? was a few years before heartbreak high, that was mid-to late 90s . i think there were mostly working class kids and had a tougher edge to it than other shows

and no, im not mixing it up with neighbours/home & away

The hendersons maybe? I vaguely remember that show - something about kids having to fend for themselves?

    Was seaQuest dsv from auz?

Beyond 2000 was auz produced and I loved that show. Flying cars and all that stuff. Not sure if any of the stuff ever made it.

No, Seaquest was US, Spielberg-produced, hence Roy Scheider.

I was really into Spellbinder back in the day. Come to think of it, it was probably the first serial type TV show that I actively followed and would wait for the next episode of.

I remember them too, reminds me of this parody from The Simpsons when Krusty is not allowed to
show Itchy and Scratchy cartoons anymore. He resorts to putting on "Worker and Parasite" from
    the eastern bloc:

On the subject of Australian kids TV here is the world record show "Just for the Record" I think
    this was on UTV

You might remember the closing credits more, with presenter Gary Who giving it loads:

Here is a link to a previous discussion we had on the subject of Australian mini-series
    from the 1980s:

My housemates only showed me some of the eastern bloc cartoons they grew up with a few weeks ago.
There was one kinda tom and jerry thing about a wolf and a rabbit and another thing that reminded me of morph or something :/
    Both very very weird

One I remember, mostly for the catchy theme tune, was called 'Saturdee'.

Every episode was almost the same: kids in 1920s Australia, all looking forward to escaping school and their strict teachers for the weekend so they can go swimming and climbing trees, but come Saturday one of them has to do chores or put on their best clothes to visit some stuffy old aunt. ("Aw, mum! But it's Saturdee!") I'm sure there are lots of future soap stars in it.

Stuck in work during the week and dreaming of the weekend, this theme tune often pops into my head!

Never knew they showed eastern European cartoons here.

A lot of the kids TV from Australia was really decent. The best by far is The Girl from Tomorrow, followed by Halfway Across the Galaxy.
