I'd like to have gone to this, but only giving 24 hours notice on here doesn't do much to maximise your audience from Ireland. Is Jiminez due to come back any time soon?

Not 100% comic related but the Kilkenny Arts Festival is on again till sunday week and there's a few interesting bits around. The Butler Gallery has an exhibition by David Godbold who isn't a comic book artist but his work def has a little comic style to it and it's a really interesting exhibition.

Upstairs the castle has given a few sections of corridor over for small exhibitions one of which is a polish [I think he wasn't there and his website doesn't say but there is a polish/english language option] comic book artist based in Ireland [again just guessing] Sebasitan Jaster. There was a couple of comic pages which all seemed to be rejected Zuda submissions and some pencil sketches for sale. Wouldn't travel to the festival just to see it but if your in the castle worth stopping by. I might drop back and see if the artist is there during the week to find out more information.

Thanks to the Sasakawa Foundation this years British International Comics Show is proud to announce the award winning Japanese manga artist Michiru Morikawa as their latest overseas guest.

In addition to overseas guests BICS will be increasing other multi cultural elements of the show including a special panel hosted by comics historian and writer Paul Gravett called “Found In Translation” that helps readers to discover translated works form all over the world that they may not previously have encountered.

Eoin Colfer (Artemis Fowl), Darren Shan (The Saga of Darren Shan) and Ian McDonald (Brasyl, Desolation Road) are among the many creators who will be attending the first WexWorlds Festival, in Wexford town from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd November 2009.

WexWorlds is the first Sci Fi and Fantasy Fiction Festival in Wexford. It was originated by Eoin Colfer and Wexford Arts Centre, and is supported by Failte Ireland, Wexford Borough, Wexford Council, Wexford Library, Wexford Chamber, hotels including Talbot and Whites of Wexford, book stores and other businesses.

Over the course of the weekend a range of activities will be taking place – including talks and readings, science experiments, comic art workshops, an exhibition on the process of writing for a comic, activities for younger children, discussions about fantastic literature, a selection of competitions and performance events – at varied venues in Wexford town, which will include Wexford Arts Centre, Wexford Library, book stores, related businesses and hotels.

Other professionals expecting to attend include:

    * Paul J Holden (Judge Dredd comic artist for 2000 AD and comic artist for Warhammer).
    * Nick Roche (comic artist for Transformers).
    * Oisin McGann (author of Small Minded Giants, Strangled Silence).
    * Michael Carroll (2000 AD comic writer and author of The New Heroes series).
    * Sarah Rees Brennan (author of The Demon’s Lexicon).
    * Andrew Donkin (writer for Transformers, Batman, Dr Who).
    * Robert Curley (writer for Freakshow comic and publisher for Atomic Diner comic books).

The majority of the events over the weekend will be FREE, with only a minimal charge (€5) for three of the workshops.

As well as books and comics, the weekend is a celebration of all fantastic fiction, so there will also be workshops on costuming, light-hearted sessions with kids and foam weaponry, and movie screening. The festival will coincide with an exhibition by emerging visual artist Vera Klute at Wexford Arts Centre.

Situated on the south-east coast of Ireland, Wexford’s history is steeped in myth and legend and makes this a perfect location for a festival of the fantastic. A story tells of its origin in the mists of time, when Garman Garbh was drowned on the mudflats by waters released by an enchantress. The vast expanse of harbour thus created was named ‘The lake of Garman’ or Loch Garman, the Gaelic name for Wexford.

Wexford is also home to one of the top fantasy fiction writers: Eoin Colfer, author of the famed Artemis Fowl series, currently working on the much anticipated new follow-up to Douglas Adams’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy which is due to be released a short time before WexWorlds.

Accessible from mainland UK and Europe via sea (Rosslare Harbour) and air (Waterford/Dublin), with bus and train access from major cities in Ireland, this festival in Wexford will make a great weekend away for any international and national tourists with a taste for the fantastic.

We are currently working on programme development and will update progress on the festival website in due course.

If you are interested in participating – as an artist, trader, visitor or volunteer – please email info@WexWorlds.net or visit http://www.wexworldsfestival.com

It is the same weekend as Thought Bubble just in case people have already planned to travel to Leeds.

In case it hadnt been mentioned here yet. Dublin City Comic Con is on hold this year. We had a million different problems that have led to the con being postponed. Everything from location issues to our two main guests pulling out. We tried our best to work around this issues but it didnt work. So next year we return with a new date and a bigger event in general. The con will be held earlier in the year also.
    Thanks for your patience.

I'm extremely happy. As I only read about this on 2000AD online about two hours after it was meant to have happened. What made it even worse is that I only live down the road.

Last minute post here to let you boardies know that the second issue of my comic, Last Bus, just came back from the printers and I think that it looks really really great. Get your first peek as it steps out into the public domain this Thursday night (that's tonight 29th April) in the Bernard Shaw. Come on down, have a drink, have a dance and take away a small piece of homegrown underground comic art in all it's inky glory.

    Thanks a million

Any Galway based comic heads might be interested in this happening. If you search for 'ComicSoc Nuig' on facebook you can find more information.
On March 10th, both the Comic Book and the Literary and Debating Societies will be hosting an 'Audience with Warren Ellis' in the Kirwan Theatre.

Warren Ellis is the award-winning creator of graphic novels such as Transmetropolitan, Planetary, Fell, Global Frequency and the author of 'underground classic' Crooked Little Vein

As expected, many members of comic-book soc are already squealing like little school girls over the prospect of being within 5 miles of Warren Ellis. This is not suprising in the least for he is awesome. And so are his works

But for those of you who aren't familiar with Mr. Ellis, here's what you've got to know:
He's one the best writers out there.
Not only are his stories funny, deep, moving, interesting, relevant and unique, they are also DAMN entertaining!!!!!! The dude is moving the comic-book medium towards somewhere special. A place where truly amazing stories can be told!

    Be there.
